Not sure how to post links, so hope this works! USS Fitzgerald is back in the water. Of note is the upgraded stacks with the shrouded exhausts like later Arleigh Burke class ships. Looks like some upgrades being incorporated into the repair work.

Re: Calling all Arleigh Burke Class Fans!
I'm not sure the stacks were upgraded, inasmuch as the conical exhausts were simply removed, perhaps as part of the maintenance period - the photos in the article (and also on the Navy's own gallery site) are from during the ship's repairs, so there's the possibility that the cones will be added back on at the end.

Went back and looked at some older pics of Fitzgerald. You are correct!

Re: Calling all Arleigh Burke Class Fans!
The ship from what I can see seems to be still under reconstruction. If you notice in the photos all the vent lovers are missing. They may have remove the upper portion of the stacks to repair or replace parts within the structure.

Indeed, it is a repair thing! Burke DDGs have those stack caps removed frequently. It would be interesting, however, for a Flight I like Fitz to be upgraded with a few FlightIIA features!

Here some photos of USS Ross (DDG-71) made 2019 in Kiel:
USS Ross in Kiel
Ross is a Flight I ship, but modified for defense against ballistic missiles. Her capabilities to defend herself against anti-ship-models are upgraded with a SeaRam launcher, AN/SLQ(v)6 SEWIP Blk II ECM and Mk 59 decoy launchers.
The best 1/700 kit to built her is USS Hopper by HobbyBoss - but it would require the addition of the above mentioned launcher, ECM equipment and decoy launchers.
SeaRAM launcher:

AN/SLQ-32(v)6 SEWIP Blk II (below the bridge wings):

Mk 59 decoy launchers (the twin tubes on the extra platforms):

Some fantastic reference photos. Forrest Sherman is in a yard period right now, and I was wondering if anyone knows if she will get the same upgrades? Which brought up 2 questions:
1. Is there a list of which ships now have Searam?
2. Is there a list of which ships have the Mk 59 decoys?

Re: Calling all Arleigh Burke Class Fans!
SeaRAM are on the ships forward deployed to Rota, Spain, for BMD duties because while operating in BMD mode, their older Aegis versions are not able to conduct normal anti-air defence. For now there have been/are five ships: the original four that started in 2015, plus Roosevelt replacing Carney for the second rotation. The other three replacements will come in 2022.
First rotation starting 2015 were Porter, Donald Cook, Ross, and Carney: https://news.usni.org/2015/05/01/bmd-eq ... rota-spain
Second rotation starting with Roosevelt: https://news.usni.org/2020/04/15/destro ... -black-sea
Note that although Roosevelt supposedly has an upgraded Aegis baseline to enable simultaneous BMD and air-defence, it still received the SeaRAM - it may be a hedge in the event that the baseline upgraded was delayed, or they thought it'd be good to have anyway.
On the Mk59 decoys, I think they're pretty wide-spread now that it'd be easier to find ships that don't have those distinctive tubes.

Does anyone know which Revell (Aqua) colors you should use for a Burke? Mainly looking for hull/superstructure, SPY and Main Deck colors.
Thanks in advance from a lonely Revell user

For the modellers. Spot the differences; DDG51 & DDG117.
USS Arleigh Burke DDG51, Helsinki November 2021
EDIT: Just noticed, the 2nd photo down is miscaptioned / mislabeled. It should of course read DDG51 (not 117)! To late to change out now though I guess.

Re: Calling all Arleigh Burke class DDG fans
Thank you very much for the photos!
Interesting that Paul Ignatius has also two Phalanx guns.
There is a difference, which I had not noticed for some time: the newer Arleigh Burke - starting with DDG-113 (the first restart) - lack the port anchor.
Here, Thomas Hudner (DDG-116):

Compare to Bainbridge (DDG-96):

What is in the quad tubes just aft of the SeaRAM launcher on 51?
And where is the 2nd Phalanx gun on 117?

These tubes? They're the Harpoons.KevinD wrote:What is in the quad tubes just aft of the SeaRAM launcher on 51?
The newer Burkes have been entering service with only one Phalanx, so nothing unusual there. Some of them are even getting lasers put into that spot! And where is the 2nd Phalanx gun on 117?

Re: Calling all Arleigh Burke class DDG fans
Pardon, misread of my post there. That is, Maxim said "Interesting thatPaul Ignatiushas also two Phalanx guns" and I was asking where the 2nd one was located (as thought there was only one)? But thanks re Harpoon ID.Timmy C wrote:The newer Burkes have been entering service with only one Phalanx, so nothing unusual there. Re: Calling all Arleigh Burke class DDG fans
Sorry, the interesting aspect was that Paul Ignatius (DDG-117) has the forward Phalanx, which is unusual for a newer Flight IIA. There is no second Phalanx, because she has a SeaRAM aft instead of the Phalanx there. Most newer Arleigh Burke are prepared for a forward Phalanx, but have non. Paul Ignatius was completed with no forward Phalanx:KevinD wrote:And where is the 2nd Phalanx gun on 117?

Perhaps she got the forward one when she got the SeaRAM for the deployment to Europe.

Recently came across this image of the USS Curtis Wilber on the http://www.navysite.de website and wondered if anyone knows what it is?

A modular electronic warfare system known as the AN/SLQ-59. The Drive has a lengthy article about it here (the goodies start around a third of the way down the page): https://www.thedrive.com/the-war-zone/2 ... leet-ships
