Trivia: SS Kobayashi Maru

Post by dragon53 »

TRIVIA---in the opening scene of STAR TREK II: THE WRATH OF KHAN, Lt. Saavik takes the Starfleet Academy Kobayashi Maru training exercise, a no-win scenario involving a distress signal from the stricken freighter Kobayashi Maru. The Kobayashi Maru was named after WRATH OF KHAN writer Jack B. Sowards' ex-neighbors.
The real SS Kabayashi Maru is a bulk carrier named after the WRATH OF KHAN fictional freighter and was launched in 2019. It has a length of 656', and its home port is Durban, South Africa.

Kirstie Alley played the role of Lt Saavik, sadly she passed away yesterday. RIP!

I thought she was terrific as Lt. Saavik. A great shame that she chose not to play the character again.
