Revell 37 matt for the linoleum decks.

I decided after some tests along the forecastle to make the railings in PE. It's fine at 1/100 for long lengths, but at 1/200 it's not conclusive. When I print them vertically it's fine, like the one already printed, but in the HZ direction it's not good enough.

I have started to replace the PE railings on the front castle, I will keep the matte ones, in resin.

This PE I know well is difficult to handle. But the result is good.

You can see the difference in "diameter" with the resin.

Note that the railings on these ships were very thin because they were made of solid iron, not hollow tubes like now.



There are still some accessories to be mounted here.

And some of the rails would have been stanchions with chain, particularly those around the main deck, which would be removable for 'battle-ready'.

Intriguingly-

-in this particular ship the rails fwd and aft --also in the vicinity of the main gins

all appear to be solid rod railing, I have yet to find tegh exceptions!

On the photo 1 and 3, it is a system installed temporarily which allows the adjustment of the guns.

Photo 2: deployment of the anti-torpedo net.

Photo 4: the flagpoles are quadripods in order to leave the front and rear fairleads free for towing. The other high supports along the rail are for installing the sunshields of the forecastle and stern.
The flagpoles also support the front and rear anchor lights.

I continued the aging of the hull with a black Tamiya juice for the antifouling part, which darkened it as desired and a little rust sparingly.

I continued the assembly of the front superstructure. The triplex tubes are to be painted white.

Still a lot of support to be mounted (Pilotis) under the catwalks.

I'm focusing on the bridge and its superstructure for the moment because it's a complex element in itself and therefore needs to be assembled and painted.

Fitting the stanchions (supports) of the different decks, not easy.

Replacing the arms on the top of the mast with piano wire, it went well because the resin had to be drilled to fit them in. I'm happy with the result, a good solid base for the rigging later.

I printed the projectors, the two arms are very fragile, you have to take precautions when handling them. A first paint job in Revelle 90 metallic grey so that the interior is lighter in transparency, then a coat of Humbrol 144 matt grey. It looks good.

Impression of the middle and rear deck 3 and the accommodation around the C turret, galley, bakery etc.. All in duplicate.

Couldn't you have even painted the back first with a coat of some silver paint to simulate the mirror?

Looking at the earlier images, I wonder, whether the bottom green of the French navy at the time was really looking that 'poisonous'. It seems rather bright in comparison to what I seem to remember from museum models at least.

This is what I did and explained above, a 90 silver layer before the gray except on the front of the projector..



The antifouling is Green matt on my ship.

Represented rather brilliant on the model of the museum of Toulon. What is not possible in reality for an antifouling.

OK, then memory for that green was not so good ... the museum in Paris now has been closed for quite a few years and I do not pictures of ships from that period.

I didn't know that Revell 90 'silver grey' was actually so silvery, that's why I asked - I am not familiar with Revell paints.

Lorraine of the Mus�e de la Marine in Paris:

The turrets should be black, the same mistake as on the Provence in the Toulon museum. The Paravane chains at the front were installed later than the period shown. I think that the 1953 model of the Provence in the Toulon museum was probably the inspiration for the model maker. No internet at the time for the one in Paris or no one interested by internet for the one in the Toulon museum which is much more recent according to my information.

It can be noticed that the battleship Provence had portholes in the superstructures and not scuttles as the Bretagne, and as on the different plans.

I don't remember, did you discuss further up, why the turrets had been painted black at that time? It must have been pretty hot in them in summer, particularly in the Mediterranean.

I have to say that those models ( very large! ) in both Paris and Toulon do look pretty sharp=
=especially the one made in 1953...
and it appears to have been looked after quite well -- as it still looks sharp and un-cracked.

Your model Pascal is progressing well also-- the searchlights look beautiful and the whole ship will be a finely detailed gemstone by the end-- but still a lot of work and printing eh!

That�s was not painted, later yes, in grey.

I don�t know the reasons:

��From 1915 onwards, i.e. during the test period, the steel of the 340 turrets and their guns was stripped and treated with a "grease plug" to prevent corrosion. These "grease plugs" contained a mixture of grease and lampblack, which gave the main artillery turrets the shiny black color that can be seen in photos from that period.��

Printing a crane, the rear stack and a lot of small parts, my parts box is starting to be full...

The crane hook is well printed with its very thin chain, it's very fragile.
