Calling all Pre-WWI submarine fans

Post by chuck »

I am building Das Werk SM U-9 kit, and I like to pair it with a scratch built companion in the form of contemporary early modern submarine, such as a british D or E class. The other submarine should be recognizably modern, but still has quaint or bizarre (compare to fully mature designs) features of a pioneer.

the main road block is a good set of plans. Does anyone know where i can find good plans of an early modern submarine? nationality is not important, the era should ne between 1900-1914

Your best bet with regard to British WWI submarines is BR-3043:

There are also plans on the Royal Museum Greenwich site, although only relatively small previews are availble for free; the actual scans are unreasonably expensive even for personal use:

In terms of American submarines, many plans can be found on NARA's website:

The only set of drawings I am aware of that is sufficient to create an accurate model are those of the T-class:

Are there any good general references for submarines used in WWI comparable to Erminio Bagnascos Submarines of World War 2?
