Keeping plastic glue applicator clean?

Hi

How do you keep these little plastic applicators clean when done modeling?
I assume you remove them from the tube after your modeling session but not sure how to clean.

Which brand of cement are you using? The ones that have the skinny needle tip?

I avoid the problem by using brush-on cement, like Tamiya Extra Thin.

Yes i use the testors red tubes. Do these bottles last a long time if not in use (Within reason)?

Testors red tubes should not be used except for maybe very large pieces with intermitted contact points.

I've never really had an issue with them drying out. Just put the cap back on in between uses, of course.

does nobody use the 'hypodermic-needle-melted-into-the-glass-tube' thingy, with liquid solvent/glue?

Or am I on a completely different page?

I agree with Timmy that the classic tube glue has a lot of drawbacks including weak bonds, slow drying time, "strings" and difficult to control the application (thus the need for and troubles with the tip). If you're not interested in a true liquid cement like Tamiya Extra Thin or Mr. Cement S, (both of which are excellent) you might like one of the mid-viscosity liquid cements like Testors Liquid or Revell Contacta. Both have a thin stainless steel applicator needle for good control, and as for viscosity both pretty much split the difference between tube glue and bottle glue.

And to address your original question, you might be able to pull them off the tube and clean them out with a toothpick and a push-pin.
