Today's progress on the magazine, (I still have the very specific handles to draw) and some details of the gun.

The magazine is almost complete.

I'll be able to move on to the rest, the armor plate and the supports for the operator.

Pascal!

Nice work, very convincing! The castelated nut setup on the trunnion is the opposite of aviation practice where the shaft has only a hole for the split safety pin and the nut has the slots. Wonder why they did that, I am sure there is an explanation.

Will be an interesting project when complete.

It's progressing slowly, too much outdoor activity with this fine weather.

Thanks Hank!

The Elco is currently being finished by my friend Stphane, but there's nothing historic or original about it. He's enjoying himself, and there will be 2 Oerlikon up front. We can see the planned locations.

With this detail level I presume this will be a "Working model?" Nice indeed and it looks as if your friend has an enjoyable project underway. The USN, RN and Kriegsmarine all had light forces, some sort of PT, MTB or E Boat, did France also have a similar craft?

I made quite a few MK 10's in variously 1:120, 1:133, 1:144 and 1:192 for my various models. Certainly not at the level of fine detail you are showing here! USN had the best WWII air defense, ironically using the Swiss Orelikon and the Swedish Bofors. Every country has its own inertia of the "Not Invented Here" syndrome and it was fortunate in determining that only the best would do and going that way. The 1.1 quad was fortunately abandoned for the boors as was the RN Pom Pom and the otherwise excellent .50 cal machine gun, for the Oerlikon with its greater hitting power.

Thanks for the info on the French high speed patrol boats!

It's slowly coming to an end, still a few details to be drawn on the mount, notably the rotation lock.

I've designed a new armored screen for this mount, the arms are longer to fit this mount. The control wheel must be able to pass between the screen and the barrel during rotation.

Why?

It prints very well, even better at 1/15 than at 1/33 like this Naval gun 12-pounder QF 12, 76mm, 3-inch...

As much as I like these 3D-printing endeavours, somehow I like any bare metal to look like bare metal, which is really only achievable by using real metal. My personal choice would be to turn/mill such parts and combine them with the 3D-printed parts.

Looking quite impressive this Oerlikon!

Tks Wefalck.
I agree, it would be even better, you have the tools. The best of both worlds.

I used a bit of metal here.

The print is superb.

It gave me the idea of printing all my guns at 1/15 scale to line them up on a display stand, at least the ones that are detailed enough for that. The 12 pound at 1/15 is going to be incredible...

I've printed a Oerlikon prototype that I'm going to keep. There will be few modifications on the next ones for Stphane.

I can't wait to paint it.

I've replaced the loader studs with 0.7 mm piano wire, which is much cleaner.

It can move on 2 axes.

Small Mono X tray! :)

I used the new Elegoo standard resin V2. (To Hank). Very nice.

That is magnificent....it puts the thing I uploaded to Thingiverse the other year to shame...

I'm jealous!

Maybe I'll have to revisit my design now and make it a bit better.
