The page for the 1/700th York gives a good idea of what is in the box, including shots of the various sprues. Presumably that indicates that the kit will be ready for release in the near future.

With Trumpeter coming out with a 1/350 USS Iowa, it's surprising (to me anyway) that Hobby Boss is planning to release their own version of the same ship. I wonder what will be the difference between the two of them.

They're the same company, so same kit. Which brand gets to release it under their banner seems to be a last-minute decision and even depends on the market, so you'll get different retailers listing one or the other company as the manufacturer up until the actual release.

Anyway, the Hobby Boss 1/350 Iowa was already released back in July: https://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10980695

Dan K wrote:You're right about that, Timmy. But, a 1/350 Yamato from VF would be even more puzzling. It's hard to believe VF could bring more to bear than what Tamiya has already done.
Every 1/350 Yamato sold by Tamiya brings no money to VF.
Also, why is it that nobody is talking about the 1/350 Midway by Trumpeter?

I know there was a 1/35 version of this coming out, but now Takom is adding a 1/72 version.

Huh. Perhaps it will lead to a entire series of IJN carrier islands.

Images of the new Vee Hobby Cleveland and Houston have been posted. Look to be massive upgrade over old Skywave kits, I know some will not be happy about the hull plating but very nice looking otherwise. Cost seems better than their San Diego release, at least from the usual early preorder suspects.

Both will be available as "Starter Editions" without the PE and Masks as well.

I quite like the plating, personally; I'd rather have a depiction of it than none at all. If it ends up being too offensive in person, it can always be sanded and cleverly painted!

Quite a tidy looking kit otherwise. Very delicious.

And now from Trumpeter, we see the first image of their 1/350 USS Midway, interestingly in her as built configuration.

And also from Trumpeter, French Cruiser Jeanne d'Arc

Could not determine where pictures were taken, these were posted on Facebook

I always did think her as-built was the more interesting! But I enjoy that WW2-vintage straight deck look :)

Now for Nelson and Baltimore please!

And now it looks like Very Fire will be releasing their USS Cleveland kit in November as well, to compete with the Vee Hobby kit.

Here is a link to photos of the box art and of the dedicated upgrade set that goes with it:

Looks like two different kits.

Yay on Midway as built. (My favorite configuration).

And still no Brooklyn in 1/700 or 1/350. I dunno, has always seemed like a no-brainer to me. Class with a superior storied history, and aesthetically pleasing.

I just wish that they balanced it out with one company doing an early war Cleveland to go along with the late war version. That way everyone would be happy.

I echo that, I'd love to build one, or two, one of the late Helena subclass as well.

I was JUST about to say this exact same thing.

Of course, having the hull and superstructure, turrets, and such, make it easier to backdate one than having no model at all.

It is frustrating that the Companies making these are so fixated on the late-war for so many ships, and we get so damned few Early-war or Pre-war ships.

I would love to have a set of Pre-War Treaty Cruisers, and the Early-War versions (IJN, USN, RN, at the very least), including the several options for the various upgrades made on those who survived the 1939 to 1942 period when major rebuilds took place to take into account the discovery that aircraft carriers and Aircraft were a vastly greater threat than were other ships big guns.

On the subject of early/pre war gubbins, I've always found the lack of such things from major German subjects to be confusing.

When was the last time we got an as-built Scharnhorst? Must be the old Airfix 1:600 one, surely. Don't think we've had as as-built Hipper, either. The Deutschlands have been nicely covered though, as have destroyers.

Scharnhorst straight nose is a very very handsome warship. I have started slowly converting a Hipper into its straight nose version, and really it looks beautiful. Kits that deliver this would be super welcome.
