Thanks. I think, I looked into DAZ some years ago. But: I don't have a resin printer (yet ...).

There's a lot of promotion going on at the moment..

I bought this new one on pre-order a few weeks ago, and the prices were very attractive, 539 euros, with a free cleaning machine... Nice printer 12K.

These figure with these templates look great; I'll probably buy a 3D printer (someday) for that purpose alone...

In fact, it's better to have a dedicated room and ventilate it during printing.

Very satisfied with the 3D prints.

Image

I experimented with printing the same sliced file with my Anycubic Photon MonoX 4K, and my brand new Anycubic Photon M5s 12K.

It's printed with 50 microns layers on both, but on the M5s, the horizontal resolution is 3 times higher, and you can see the difference with the naked eye, there are no visible layers on the M5s, on the print of the Mono X 4K you can see with a magnifying glass layers on the cases and on the anvil. You can't see this in the photos.

The most remarkable detail is the size of the printed subject, you can see the difference with the naked eye, the Mono X 4K prints larger, which sometimes poses a problem for parts that fit together, you have to take this problem into account when drawing the parts before printing.

On the M5s, the parts come out visibly to the designed dimension, even better than on the Anycubic Ultra, which has a different technology.

The problem is not to get trapped (by habit) by drawing parts that are too thin at the printing limit. Like the handles of the seals which didn't print on the M5s (too thin) and printed fine on the Mono X because they were automatically of a larger diameter.

I've kept the two printing sessions, which makes my sailor a little bigger, a little more pasted and a little smaller, which isn't bad.

On the right, printed in 4K resolution, on the left in 12K. You can also see that the detail is much better in 12K, even if the iPhone's camera doesn't keep up...

I detached and started painting the sailors, the whites Revell Matt 5 and the blues, Scale colour Ocean blue SW60.

Then I continued with the whites, applying two colours, the skin colour Humbrol Matt 61, and again SW60 for the bachi.

There's still the hair, the red pompom to paint, the black shoes, the accessories, boxes, brooms etc... Ditto for the blue series.

I painted maybe 200 for my APA and ARL in a larger scale, Quite a tedious task, at least for we old folks! Will add a lot to the model!

Indeed Tom! Tks. :thumbs_up_1:

I've started to 'furnish' the deck. Only a few of the 200 sailors are in place.

The photos are average because of the white, which is a bit clashing. It looks much better in real life.

The lower part of the photo shows the finished figures, while the upper part shows the application of the base colour.

I use 5 colours for each figure.

Wow, fantastic work on those figures! :thumbs_up_1: :thumbs_up_1: :thumbs_up_1:

Just to be able to do this, I will have to learn 3D designing at some point in the future too... So thanks for the inspiration!

Thanks, Wefalck, Josse and Marijn. :thumbs_up_1:

@Marijn: unfortunately, I don't have your dexterity with a paintbrush.

I'm a bit late on this one as I've started another project.

This series is finished being painted. Now they can get on board.

Iceman a fine ship to model and so beautifully researched and developed! I am very interested in the French Navy it is a remarkable fleet with a very remarkable history thru many eras.

I am currently collecting 3000 scale versions of most fleets of WWII, and will be of course doing the French fleet before the very sad events in 1940 which I still cannot accept as rational in any way. However to move on, i am very intrigued by your deck colour. I looked carefully at the photos for info on both the hull and superstructure colour and the decks. I will have to solve those issues for ships of all classes, and was quite interested to see that colour. I have read that other ships of other classes of the French fleet used a warm colour, variously described as red and other shades. For other fleets linoleum was used was that the case here? It did look like the deck was metal plates rather than the wood of some fleets.

I cannot say enough about how marvelous your attention to detail is Love the figures, ships boats are also very well done i will continue going thru this thread soon, just got started and wanted to skip ahead to see where you were. truly fine work.
