What is the deal with these Takao-class cruisers being listed as �new� by Hobby Search?

Pit-Road/Sky Wave Atago 1941/44

Pit-Road/Sky Wave Takao 1942/44

Aoshima Takao 1944

Fujimi Atago 1941/44 Full Hull + PE

Fujimi Ch?kai Full Hull + PE (Can�t tell what year, as it uses the same photo as the Atago)

These seem to have been led by the Fujimi Takao 1944 Full Hull + PE that actually looks pretty good (pity that no one does a 1941/42 version with the separate funnel-piping and that kind of PE detail.

But I can�t tell if the other Takao-class ships from Fujimi are based upon the same thing (The 1944 Takao that went on sale last year).

The photos that do show-up on the Pit-Road and Aoshima Ships don�t look terribly �exciting� and like they are from molds cut in the 1990s in some cases.

With the Flyhawk and Yamashita ships showing-up with such an enormous leap in detail� What is going on here?

I didn�t see these mentioned in the thread, but could have just missed them.

If the actual question here is "are these new molds?", I'm inclined to say no. At least for the two Fujimi kits, their pages already include a link to the versions released in 2022 without the PE (under "Related Products"). So relative to those, not new molds (but certainly new compared to whatever generation was before the big 2010s revamps)

For the Pit-Road and Aoshima, I see no indications they're anything but re-releases under a different product code. Even the Pit-Road Takao has details in the description that indicate what the old product codes were.

Pit-road and Fujimi's Takao class kits are pretty good and there's no need to re-mold them in the foreseeable future.

Not my cup of tea, but looks decent and should make a lot of fans of this era happy. Vee seems to be ramping up as the Cleveland's just rolled out a few months ago. Interesting to see what they have in store next.

Wow, that's really exciting! Pairs nicely with the VF Des Moines. Looks like it'll come in regular and deluxe versions - no PE in the regular version. Given the lack of generic '50s era PE sets, the deluxe version will almost certainly have to be purchased.

It is a pity Pit-Road didn�t ask Flyhawk �Hey! Remember that Kager? Destroyer with PE and Turned-Brass Masts we made? Let�s do that with the IJN Cruisers!�

Maybe someday.

I am still waiting to see when people will get a better understanding of how to design kits so the PE is better integrated to make the connections more solid, and Resin Kits (or plastic) designed specifically to need PE to complete are constructed to eliminate a lot of the joins and seams that exist.

Like would it kill them to include either a slight step or slot into which to insert the bottom of the PE railings, or something similar for Prop Guards? That would make them an awful lot stronger, easier to assemble, and better looking as a whole.
