Blockade Runner colors

Post by Rusty_S85 »

I have this reissue of the old "Lindberg Blockade Runner" kit that I have been trying to do research on for the past year to get some kind of plan set up, the major area that I am having trouble in is the paint itself.

The kit is basically the USRC Harriet Lane which was eventually captured at the battle of Galveston in 1863 and finally was left at Cuba in 1864. I already have a set of steam era Vallejo paints as I figure it will be needed as this is a steam paddle wheel war ship. But I just dont know what colors for every thing else. The box art has her Green and white with a tan or grey wood deck, paintings of the Harriet Lane shows her black with the tops and insides of the wood hull being painted white.

Would anyone around here know possibly what colors would be proper for this ship in say its 1863-64 configuration? Lots of history for this ship but not how she looked before she was left in Cuba, just a bunch of vagueness.

It has been a while since i have read about the ACW at sea. I believe most Confederate Blockade runners were "whitewashed" or "whitewash and lamp black mix" You might want to look through the ACW OR.
