PHOTOS ON THIS POST. By the way other photos in the book show that deck railings were lowered inboard when guns were fired. The stern photo on this post seems to suggest those were lowered outboard. The caption above belongs with the bottom photo. While researching a model of this ship I have started I got several pubs related to it, some of them pretty old. One pub, Pocket Battleships of the Deutschland Class, had several educational photos in it. One topic, the presumably black boot stripe on all 3 ships of the class was more narrow than as portrayed in the Kagero 3D book, otherwise very accurate best I can figure out. The test shot in the post above came from that book.
A late reply, but in case it is still of some use? There are not may photos of the class in drydock that clearly show the boot topping. Or if there are, I have not seen them. Best one I can think of that clearly shows it is this one from Wikipedia showing the bombed and sunk remains of the Admiral Scheer in 1945:
She was in overall light grey at the time so the dark grey boot topping stands out well and you can gauge the thickness of the line relative to the rest of the hull.
Hadn't seen this image for ages, and just stumbled across accidentally while looking for something else in my Exeter file. Another rather 'haunting' image IMO!
PS. I don't see a Graf Spee thread like this "Calling all HMS York class (HMS Exeter-WWII) fans" in the BB section. And a search does not show one. Is there not one, or am I just not looking in the right place??

Not sure if this has been asked before, but does anyone know if any 1:350 Heinkel He 60 is available?
Almost all pre-war build of this class would need one if the aircraft is to be included, so would seem a shame if there aren't any.
I would go with an e7k1 seaplane : size and general appearance is very close ! e7k2 is radial engine and e7k1 is inline engine.
wingspan 13,50m vs 14m length 11,50m vs 10,50m (not so noticeable difference).
just some minor cosmetic modifications/cuts/sanding, proper decals and paint scheme should do the trick IMHO.
you can find e7k1 aircrafts in tamiya mikuma model. if someone can give a leftover to you...

I'm presuming I won't get hold of the Mikuma kit so may try scratch-building the Heinkel.
Hello, Im starting to build the Trumpeters Graf Spee in 350 with the Eduard detail set and the ArtwoxModel wooden deck. The first surprise was find that the rear hawse pipe was inverted so I started fixing it.
Another detail I can�t solve are the covers at the sides of the aft deckhouse. They aren�t in the kit but they are in the book Topdrawings. I can�t find a picture with them.
Another book has a picture of a shipyard drawing that shows something, but I can�t realize if they are opened at the forward side.
Another detail is that around the plane launcher support is a roof and it isn't in the kit.

Can anyone point me where I can find a good set of modeling plans for the Deutschland/Lutzow or Admiral Scheer?
I am gathering info to assess feasibility of building a 1/200 scale German PBS. I prefer the cylindrical foremast of the Deutschland/Lutzow and post 1940 refit Admiral Scheer to the massive pyramidal foremast of Graf Spee and pre-refit Asmiral Scheer.

What do we know about the surfacing of the Graf Spee's superstructure decks during her war cruise in 1939? Looking at various sorts of images online, I seem to see a lot of clashing interpretations regarding what was planked, what was clad in linoleum, and what was just painted steel.

i can't understand why they'd go to the trouble of putting the watertight doors on these structures and then leave one side open.
