Re: John F. Kennedy hangar bay details
Hello,
Floating drydock has Kennedy plans for a 1980 build. I would guess that the hanger bay layout stayed the same throughout the years.

Good luck,
Mark

John F. Kennedy hangar bay details
Thanks, Mark! I just ordered the plans from Floating Drydock but the best I can tell, the hangar deck plans are not included. Hope I'm wrong!

Re: John F. Kennedy hangar bay details
Hi Dave,
I have many of their plans and they generally have all the deck layouts so it should include the hanger bay.
Good Luck,
Mark

That's what I thought. With that being said, do any of you guys know where I can find something showing all the hangar deck walls. I've found a few pictures but nothing really helps.

Thanks David for the pics! There are some there I have and some I don't. I also appreciate the drawings for the Saratoga. I can see that they will be very helpful as well. (to bad Bert Kinsey didn't put pics of the hangar bay in his book on the Kennedy like he did for the Enterprise)

I got my drawings of the Kennedy today from the Floating Drydock. They include four huge sheets, 30" x 72" showing the flight deck on one sheet, the Main Deck (which looks like the Hangar Deck) and the Second Deck on another sheet, the starboard profile on another sheet, and the portside profile and island levels on another sheet. Looks to be a great deal of useful information.

Yep, you are right! Just skimming over the plans, I believe I got more than I bargained for. These plans will be a huge benefit when it comes to building the Kennedy. I am hoping to do a good representation of her as she was in 1992-93.

Does anyone know how many MD-3s and P-25s are assigned to a carrier? I know there is a minimum of two P-25s.

1/350 detail sets for the jfk
Any set out there? My commander and chief aka wife handed me a box today it was the 1/350 jfk she got it because I loved the f14 squadron in the kit the Jolly rogers. I was going to order the detail set for the kitty hawk.. but re read this section I dont care about the number being in photo etch just the island details thanks

For anybody.
Based on the drawings from the floating drydock (Inaccurate) and from numerous photos, here is my drawing of the USS John Fitzgerald Kennedy CVA-67 in around 1987:

Re: Calling all USS John F. Kennedy CVA-67 fans!
I've uploaded a 2011 Booklet of General Plans to the Webarchive. The plans (pdf, png or jpg) are ok, the information text is still a draft and it contains a lot of bugs and errors (the usual "copy paste" errors and typos). The Webarchive was under ddos attack in october 2024 and unfortunately full functionality has not been restored yet and I have not been able to correct these errors yet.
The plans were originally modified for public release in january 2011 and approved for public release in july 2020.
Plans are available here: USA - CV-67 USS John F Kennedy Booklet of General Plans (2011)
if downloading is an issue, click on "show all" (written in black in the download menu), a new page will open with links to the files. rightclick the files and choose "save link as".......
attached some "contact sheets" I made
more plans uploaded by me in the Ship Design Drawings Collection on the Webarchive. Index spreadsheet file available here
And yes, all plans are free (and non-pirated)

I am looking for the hull lines for USS John F Kenndy CV 67. I want to build a 1/96 scale model. I have cross sections, but no profile view to go with them.

Thanks FFG-7
I already have those set of plans. However, no info to build the hull from.

EDU-53171 1/350 Ship- USS Kitty Hawk CV63 Hull & Deck Pt.2 for TSM
EDU-53172 1/350 Ship- USS Kitty Hawk CV63 Railings & Safety Nets Pt.3 for TSM
EDU-53173 1/350 Ship- USS Kitty Hawk CV63 Aircraft Pt.4 for TSM
EDU-53174 1/350 Ship- USS Kitty Hawk CV63 Lifeboats Pt.5 for TSM
But as for commonality I have no idea. There will be someone along shortly to answer that perhaps. I have all 5 sets but am not yet ready to start that project. I am waiting for airwing and deck decals from Boatswain Models. But it looks like the decals for CV 67 will be ready before the CV63 decals according to an email I received from them. And no word on etch for the JFK from any supplier so far. So it may be a bit before I start either. I have the JFK as well.
Tom
Wondering if anyone got into this any deeper. The Big Ed's from the Kitty Hawk and Constellation seem to be 100% the same, but the lineage of the ILK/Merit JFK shows a separate timeline, so a "different kit."
Did anyone try to "fit" the Eduard bits, and in case how much commonality is there, and should I just jump in and get it and stop being a crybaby?
Cheers

Re: Calling all USS John F. Kennedy CVA-67 fans!
Fellow CV-67 fans,
Having read George C. Wilson's Super Carrier one too many times, I'm seized with the idea of building the 1:700 Trumpeter kit to depict Big John during the 1983-84 deployment covered in the book. However, I'm having trouble nailing down some of the details of things, such as CIWS locations (there's one on the port side forward on a new sponson, but I can't find the rest) and so forth that I'd need to backdate. Starboard-side details are especially difficult to find. The "67" appears to still be on the side of the island, and I note SPS-49 is fitted, but I can't find any other fine details such as weapons/sensor locations and so forth that might have been different prior to the well-covered 1984-85 refit.
I've scoured the cruise books, the NavSource photo database, Bert Kinzey's book about CV-67, and my copy of Stefan Terzibaschitsch's carriers book, but with no luck finding that much from the early '80s. Any pointers toward material that may help keep me from going crazy (or, more appropriately, crazier) will be cheerfully welcomed.

Re: Calling all USS John F. Kennedy CVA-67 fans!
There was only one CIWS at this time. The other 3 corners had Sea Sparrow launchers and directors.
Here's a couple of pics from Ray Beans Facebook that might help. They are early 80's.

The 83/84 Cruise book does have some good pics of the air wing.
