Next up - what did I miss?
I see that the Trumpeter painting instructions call for and illustrate a fairly light-toned overall "neutral grey" paint scheme above the waterline. Examples of completed models are now appearing on-line following those instructions painted in that sort of tone of grey and they look wrong. The tone is too light as a representation of Home Fleet grey which you can see in my photos of the Devonport model posted above. Trumpter should have specified a darker shade of grey.
I always think that a shame. You see it a fair bit in Youtube videos too. Some immensely skilled and dedicated modellers, but they just follow then instructions and end up with inaccurate colours. Which is a great pity.
Anyway, hope some quality super detail sets emerge soon for Royal Oak and Resolution in 1:350.
The official cover of the latest HMS Resolution ww2 model from AJMMODELS POLAND. The model will be available from distributors at the turn of May and June.
Anybody has photos of HMS Resolution in 1931/32?
I wish to know how the 4"/45 QF Mark XV guns in prototype BD mountings looked like. (HA/LA BD Mark XVII) https://www.navweaps.com/Weapons/WNBR_4-45_mk5.php
I've just joined this group, coming from a shipbuilding town Barrow in Furness. I'm thinking about trying to build a model of her last built Dreadnought HMS Revenge in 1/350 (I'd like to do it in 1/200 but no kits) but what would be the best of the kit on the market to start with. I'm thinking about the two Trumpeter kits, HMS Royal Oak and HMS Resolution. For a time scale I'm thinking about 1939-45.
I've just bought the Shipyard detail up kit (the deluxe kit), what are these like as I normally use Pontos ones.
If the two kits are "full hull" and are accurate, your best bet, for a start, might be to use the kit for HMS RESOLUTION. She had the same bulges as HMS REVENGE. Those for HMS ROYAL OAK were noticeably different. Burt's "British Battleships 1919 - 1939" and Raven and Roberts' "British Battleships of World War Two" have useful photographs in them.
