Future Floor finish

Post by lrankine »

I'm looking for a few tips on the use of Future. My understanding of the primary use of future is to provide a gloss finish to apply decals on. Once the decal(s) are applied a coat(s) of clear flat is applied to eliminate the gloss of the future and the decals. So, here goes.....

1) Is the Future thinned?
2) If so, what is the best thinning ratio?
3) What is used for thinner? I've heard water but would like to confirm that.
4) Do you only apply the Future in the general area where the decals will be placed or do you need to do the entire ship/sub?
5) What do you use for the clear flat finish coat(s)?

And, of course any other words of wisdom that could be helpful. I'm trying to finish up my 1/144 Trumpy 1941 Gato Sub and am still vasilating on whether or not to even put the hull number on since the numbers were removed during wartime. Thanks in advance for any help/advice!

Future does not neccesarily have to be thinned. It's up to the user, really. It can be airbrushed fairly nicely straight out of the bottle.

See here for a guide to Future and its uses/usage: http://swannysmodels.com/TheCompleteFuture.html

Great Reference! Thanks a lot Timmy! :thumbs_up_1: Do you, or anyone else for that matter, use Future for finishing all your models?

BUMP! :wave_1:

Does anyone use Future to routinely finish their models if you're not using decals? Or is it primarily used to eliminate the silvering you get with decals?

I myself use Future for two things:

1) Eliminate silvering
2) Provide a barrier coating between Aqueous paints and Testor's Enamel Dullcote, which dissolves Aqueous paints.
