Command And Conquer Shipbuilding

Post by KYamato »

Okay, I form this thread after I aborted the Iowa project, it was practically impossible from the work point of view..

Basically, I am still looking to add in some better looking ships, and something to keep my modelling skills up. (Game isnt on computer, have to get on puttin it back.) I ask only for some suggestions on some ships to model, and attempt to place in game.

For the first project, I am thinking of doing a small ship, with a simple design. Possible candidates that I have seen are the Molniya Frigates, or the Bogue class Carrier. Preferably the ship should be WW1+, considering this will be going in with the other units.. (If its a carrier, I can attempt some timeframe specific planes for it.)

Okay, the first Hull has been set.

I decided after no recommendations, to do the Molniya Class Frigate, a small frigate designed by the Russian/Soviet navy.

Here is the Frigate so far, with reference from the picture below..

The red in my picture, in spirit of you guys, I will attempt to put railings on it.. I still have to smooth out the lower hull on the transition (area where the bulge comes out, have to smooth that out in the lower hull.)

Are you doing this by eye, or from plans?

Purely from the eye, if I even had plans I'd likely be confused anyway (3 Way Views is what is normally used, and I cant use those on some of these things..). I just eyeballed the side of the hull, and did half the hull, cloned it and mirrored it. Next step is to attempt the superstructure from eyeball, though the two pictures on FAS arent exactly all that insightful..

Another update this weekend...

The turret barbette has been done, and a basic Superstructure has been laid out. The side launchers have been modeled as well, I decided to model them as two parts instead of one moulded tube with 2 launchers.

I do believe that is all, and a picture for you guys...

Well now, tonight I discovered a nice little bit of information...

From another game I saw the Tarantul, a small Corvette that also goes by the name of Molniya. However, the differences between the Tarantul and Molniya are quite large, one of which I can see is superstructure and hull size in general..

Therefore, I now know that I am doing a different ship than I once believed... :lol_1:

Another update in the near future..

Edit: Also, what are the paint schemes used by the Soviet/Russian Navy for the Molniya Class Corvettes, I know its bound to involve a strange red color and grey at least.. :lol_spit_1:

Another Update!

Today, the superstructure in its whole has been taken off, and I have began redoing it.. (Decided it didnt look good enough after looking at the pictures..)
Image
The front superstructure has been reworked, the bridge is done as far as modelling goes. A small radar, guessing its a navigation radar is on top of the bridge, and two antennas have been put on the lower deck. The barbette was moved forward and resized.

What I anticipate to do next is get that gun modelled (Cant find good pictures of the side and top..) and get more of the superstructure done. (Masts and decks)

Ugh, by no means this would be over if modelling units for Generals wasnt so hard.. :mad_1:

Anyway, I might be able to pick up RA2 and Yuri's Revenge and make a few ships there, for as the voxel editor supposedly is easier to use for me.. I dont know because I havent made much in the Voxel Editor yet..
