camber

Post by tarsier »

Does anyone have any suggestions on how much camber I should be using? I figure 2 to 3 millimeters which at 1/20 scale would be 40 to 60 millimeters or 1 1/2 to 3 inches. Does this sound about right? too little?

thanks in advance.

Tarsier.

I haven't posted any pictures in a while. I am hoping to get the deck in, then attach the rub rails, I should be in good shape to post some pictures then.

On bigger ships its 6 inches in 20 ft.
Simple but effective.

Is that 6 inches for every 20 feet from port to starboard? The boat I am working on is 72 feet long probably about 18 feet wide or so I would guess - about 11 inches *20 = 220 /12 = 18

so would I make it a little less than 6 inch camber? Is the camber the same throughout the length of the boat or less if the width goes down to say 12 feet towards the bow?

thanks ARH!

If your ship is 18ft wide the camber would be just under 3 inches, 9ft from each side from the cente line, the camber would reduce the shorter the distance to the edge from the centre line. :wave_1: :wave_1: :thumbs_up_1:

Hi Tarsier ,

the camber ( the curve ) itself remains the same for the whole length of the ship , to get an even curved deck.

Of course , at the bow and at the stern , the deck centre height will be less than at midship .
