How did you make all that railing from scratch? Those radars? With no Photoetch?

hardest thing is arm of crane.
and catapult.
crane is mostly made with square plastic beam(0.5mm) and plasti plate.
catapult is from kit(have exact shapeof catapult). but I drilled every holes.
and I inserted piston.
radar and railing is made with stretched plastic(useless plastic from kit) by heat.
with various diameter of stretched plastic It's possible to make many things.

All the things are POSSIBLE by scratch.
But waste so much TIME.
She've eaten too much my young life.(I have no "Human She")

Not sure if this has already been mentioned here or not, but The History Channel will be televising a brand new programme (not "Sinking the Supership") about Yamato in December. It will be part of a new series called "Dogfights".

"Dogfights" features computer recreations of famous aerial and nautical battles...not simple wire frames with jerky movement, but very impressive models with much more realistic movement. In addition to excellent graphics, they have witnesses and experts help tell the story. The intent is to make it as accurate as possible within the budget, production time and air time limitations

I saw and recorded the show during the 10 o'clock airing and it looked pretty impressive, as far as the computer generated ships were concerned. And seeing the Yamato "in action", gave a new sense of appreciation of how good she really looked. Now if someone would come out with a 1/700 full-hull model of her and Musashi, I'd be one happy customer.

Look in the future release section over at hobby link Japan. If I read it right, pit road is going to release a full hull 1/700 Yamato sometime in the near future

By the way, I forwarded this posting to several members of the International Yamato Owners Assocation http://www.worldyamato.blogspot.com & one of them advised that the link following your photos actually links to a virus. Here is their reaction:

"DO NOT VISIT THE LINK AFTER THE 3 PICTURES ON SHIPMODELS!!! i JUST RECEIVED A VIRUS FROM THE SITE AND IT IS A PERSISTANT ONE."

"The Virus creates a worm .exe file called spoclsv.exe that your AV software will not catch and spyware may pick it up. By the time I found this it had already created over 200 copies of itself in the form of .exe files. It will move to USB devices like MP3 players and what not further infecting other computers that the device is plugged into. The worm is called Fujacks.B and is a total pain in the ass to get rid of. I have been at it for over an hour now and I am still going. Oh it has now disabled my quick launch bar and the start button."

You may want to look into this.

Looks like you made an amazing job of detailing this model! Looking forward to seeing the photos in the gallery - I'd definitely be interested to see close-up photos of the bridge, deck detail, armament etc.
I also usually scratchbuild extra detail for my models rather than using aftermarket sets but I think in this case I'd have bought some PE railings regardless of the price! Yours look very neat + fine - are they made entirely from stretched sprue? If so, are they very fragile? I've never had much luck with stretched sprue as it seems to be so brittle and breakable - normally I use fine metal wire for this sort of thing.

Also, how does the Arii 1/250 Yamato compare to the 1/200 Nichimo kit in terms of detail and accuracy?

I built most of extra railing with stretched spure. ladder, railing, radar, etc.
strach with spure need spend os much time.
and I used some fine steel wire at parts that need more strentch.
railing with spure has some advantage.*need few money.*easy to glue.*make various diameter(it can be radar and railing, pistons, some rigging, ladder, etc.)
but pretty breakable. and need more time. and hard to bending.
it need some patience and carefulness.
if you need more questions. I'll reply more.
I think accuracy of arii kit is worse than tamiya's. and similar with nichimo's
sharpness is better than tamiya's
It might be looks simple without trying extra detail.
If you try extra detail with scratch...
1/250 is pretty nice. but hard to get aftermarket product.(that is fatal to make nice 1/250)

What glue did you use to make the railings and ladders? I'm thinking that regular model cement would 'melt' the plastic too much.

needs liquid cement.
TAMIYA EXTRA THIN CEMENT melt plastic too much.
not good for glue small parts.

I used academy cement. ir contains P/S resin.

As you use and use this cement this become dry & sticky. Then I use it
for spure treating.
I haven't use tamiya cement. I guess it is similar with acamedy cement.

And Gel type atomic cement is very good to glue steel wire @ rigging.

you are right .Pit road are doing a full hull yamato but its going to be resin and at 20,000 yen or about 200 us dollars not very cheap.Aoshima does a full hull nagato in 1/700 allready.Also just came out a nachi /myoko full hull as well in 1/700
