Calling all Udaloy-class (Фрегат-M) & Sovremennyy-class (сарыч) fans

Hey Sean - I see some of the online sites show the Udaloys in stock. Have you gotten your hands on one yet? I'm looking forward to hearing about them before I throw down my cash.

I bought the Trumpeter Udaloy late this week and since my girlfriend is gone for the we, I have been able to speedbuild her.

Fit is good to very good. Some parts need extra care and some putty, most notably the missile containers.

Detailing is good, but the kit would profit from some photo etched railings.

The structure is made in clear plastic in order to allow for "glass windows".

Some of the masts are included in photoetch and in clear plastic, the photoetch is very pleasant to work with and should not pose any problems to those hesitant to use it. However, some extra fittings have to be cut off the clear parts and glued to the brass parts...

I'm actually working on a review for the site right now. Let me just say- I'm pumped. I may have a problem already- I cannot stop taping the lower and upper hulls together, adding the decks, and chasing the cat around.... :big_grin:

Looks interesting. I'd just paint the windows or drill them out like on the Sovremenny. I look forward to more pics.

So, what images do you guys have of Udaloy's that isn't from FAS or the Zaloga Concord book?

What about images of Admiral Chabanenko (Udaloy II)?

Anyone got plans of these?

The best place I have come across for Udaloys DD605 is shipspotter.com lots of good shots as it travelled around the UK
Udaloy II pictures are very rare and thats quite frustrating, they are going to get even rare as the Russian navy has run out of money to give her a refit and are laying her up
I have a set of her some where in Norway covered in ice and snow great series of photos but not a lot of detail
the other place for quite specatular soviet ship photos is the us military photo archives The DEFENCE Visual Information centre

this takes a bit creative searching for what you need as the cataloguing data is strangely filed to say the least

O and Shipspotters.com is more additive that airliner.net

How are you finding the fit of the parts on this ship?

I did have some problems aligning the parts of the funnels but that is more likely my clumsiness than the kit's fault. The clear plastic used in the parts in the picture made it tricky to me to see the joints at the front. I think it would have been better to brush some liquid poly glue on the back of the parts to reduce the clarity of these bits.

Whilst searching the net for pictures of the Admiral Panteleyev I did find one at Wikipedia that shows that the orange-brown is used on more decks than the painting instructions say.

I'll have a review up on Moskva soon. It's mostly the same level of kit as the Udaloy.
