Looking great! Wish I could afford these resin kits - they look very impressive from previews and built models I've seen. I might scratchbuild this in 1/144 one day if I can find the plans.

I'm currently working on a Civil War ship, but a very different one, it's the Pyro kit (about 1/110 scale) of the revenue cutter USS Harriet Lane (usually sold as "Civil War Blockade Runner"). This is a fairly small paddle steamer gunboat.

Well, it's like this. I'm at the point that I COULD make it, but I would be rushing the final details that really make the model and that I really enjoy doing. Things like those gun carriage wheels and turnbuckles that Gary showed me how to make, boat interiors, rigging, the display base, etc.

I think I'm going to slow down, enjoy the build, make it out to the Long Island show this weekend, and give this model the time it deserves to be finished.

Besides, with Keith bringing a Michigan to MosquitoCon, I ain't got a shot at the "Made in New Jersey" award anyway!

Civil War Ironclads & Monitors

I've been always interested in ironclads & monitors since I was young & had a book on Mississippi River ironclads & the excavation of the Cairo, & have recently taken an interest in building several RC models.

Would anyone know of a good plan source for USN/ CSN ironclads & monitors?

I recently came across a link that contains undoubtedly the most comprehensive information on modeling Civil War ironclads, specifically 1/72 RC models:

Currently building Verlinden Production's CSS Atlanta - basics are finished, she's on her base. I need to know what exactly did she have on her bow - was it a spar torpedo like some of the other ironclads? Also, would like to know whether her boat placement was similar to other ships like her. Thanks!

I have a bunch of the Thorughbred 1/600 Civil War ironclad kits. I buy them a few times a year and have been waiting for the right time to build them. Someday I will start working on them, Will start with New Ironsides.
