Inner pressure hull tricks for 1:72 U-boats

Hi all you static 1:72 U-boat modellers,

For those wanting to add some rudimentary internal structures to the Revell 1:72 VIIC U-boats, here are some helpful tips:

• - a 2.5" O.D. tube is the right size to model the inner pressure hull on the Revell 1:72 U-boats... this is for the middle section (the pressure hull gets smaller near the bow & stern).

• - saddletank ribs (for the middle section) have a 1.25" O.D.

Wish I would have found this post a while ago. My Revell type VIIC is almost ready for the paint process. When I opened the kit and took a good look at it I said to my self, "no way in &^% are you ever going to get a pressure hull in that."

Oh well. I don't have the desire to crack it back open.

I hear ya, brother!

This is something I was planning to do for this build (U-673)... after my experience with the first build (U-625). It wasn't as bad as I thought... alot of measuring and drafting, but in the end it is worth it.

Subs & pressure hulls ie WTC (water tight containers)

May I suggest the http://www.subpirates.com or the subcomittee, there are some interesting type VII & Gatos r/c 1/72 scale projects there, a good refernce section with off the shelf WTC supplies as well.( even for smaller scales there is support)
anyone for a r/c I-400 class in 1/300 scale.
oh well back to the 1/32 subs at least I can play with them at the beach

1/32 type VII 1/32 gato & a 1/30 I-400 (hull lines only) at this stage
1/87 LA class
1/200 yam & mushasi
1/300 I-400 (old kit)
1/16 tanks, 6 X 1/32 Lancasters & a VN wagon to carry all the crud
& trains
I don't think I have crossed the fine line between madness & normallity, I busted through it.
2 mins walking to the beach.
& 10mins from Adelaide at 3am

Its surprising how litttle space a sub takes up standing on end.
Models are for enjoying not an ego trip or trip over the model
