Battle ship warspite

Hi all.

Im planning on making a model of the warspite, i have the book anatomy of ships, and am looking for a set of plans, preforably in 1:144 scale.

I have searched everywhere for a set of plans but as of yet come up empty handed.

This is to be my first detailed working model so i am looking for fairly detailed drawings.

Any help would be apreciated.

Hi Woody, for a Warspite in that scale you should get a copy of the as fitted plans if available.

For something in such a large scale, I concur the 'As fitted' plans are your best choice as long as you can afford the outlay.

What year/fit are you building Warspite in as you didn't say?

Some good detailed drawings of her will be in the Raven & Roberts British Battleships of WW2 book and also in Ray Burt's British Battleship books, these can help supplement the already excellent AOTS book you have.

She is also a fairly well photographed ship, due to her fame, for any time period so you should have a good choice of photos out there to utilise also.

Kenny that plan source is new to me.

Can you tell me any more about them?

He states "Plans I have drawn up in 1/144 scale"

Any idea what he uses as source material as he has around 40 Royal Navy ship plans, all 1 sheet and if he's basing them from 'as fitted' plans he must be a millionaire!

Thus one wonders, what is the source of his drawings, perhaps photos and books? Only plans as far as I'm concerned traced from the 'as fitteds' will be the most accurate and worthy of selling commercially.

Well i've never used his plans before but he seems to be pretty popular in the combat realm ... in fact i think he battles (hence 1/144 for all his plans).

I've heard mixed reviews, most people say they are decent or nice plans. I have heard from one person that they are terrible and he would never buy them...he claims his 3 year old girl could draw better with crayons... haha, i'm not sure how valid of a statement that is but most people dont seem to mind them. However i do have to admit that in combat clubs we dont detail that much and so as long as the hull and basic superstructure is fairly accurate we tend to not mind minor discrepencies. If you want more information i can ask some of my friends who have done business with him.

As for sources i have no clue .... looks like most of his plans he didn't draw, i'm assuming he bought the rights to them or something ... but since he drew this one i have no idea. Since he claims a specific fit i assume he researched it fairly well... as if i were to draw a ship i wouldn't name an exact year if i was only doing a basic drawing.

well thanks all for your help, ill contact the maritime museum and see what they have to offer, ill keep you all updated when i finaly get round to making a start on her.
