Question about Plaster type for Mold.

Post by NucSub »

Have been following various builds now for just over a year and have learned much. Have finally started my own project with the hull construction based on Moffett.
Question. ARH used One Step Plaster. For those of us in drywall country (gypsum board). I cannot find plaster at my local big box store. Can I substitute drywall joint compound?? Very cheap and easily obtainable.
Once I get the frame set and looking better I may even try and post the build.
Thank you everyone for all that I see on this site.

I am not sure that drywall compound would be as solid.

I picked up an eight pound tub of plaster from a local craft store a while back. Maybe "Michaels Crafts" carries some. My tub is branded "DAP" and with all the "DAP" products, I would think it would be readily found. http://www.dap.com/RPM_POI.asp

I think it should be O/K , might take a little longer to harden. :wave_1: :wave_1: :thumbs_up_1:
Simple but effective.

ARH. You were right about it not hardening. Oh well.
Now using a 40lb bag of patching plaster supplied from our local Ace Hardware. I should know by now, if I want something even slightly uncommon, to try there first.
Ace is truely the place of the helpful hardware person........
Progress is being made. I may even shoot a few pictures this weekend if it shapes up OK.
Thank you all again for the help.
