1:720 revell graf zeppelin colors

hey guys,

I just bought the Revell Graf Zeppelin kit last night and am having trouble tracking down information on what color the main deck would have been. As the ship was a hypothetical one and was never completed there isn't much information. I was wondering if anyone can suggest whether i should go with a deck wood or teak color, or whether i should go with something like Tamiya's dark grey or maybe possibly even German Grey. German Grey seems a little bit dark to me...any thoughts? Also i would like it if someone could help me to determine whether or not the Kriegsmarine would have used aerial recognition swastikas on the bow and stern decks or not.

any help and insight would be greatly appreciated.

I would go with a steel deck, so dark grey. You can always tone this down for scale effect.

Certainly I think you could have aerial recognition markings. The beauty of a never-was design is the artistic licence.

very true...thank you for the insight. I had never thought about that, simply wanting to make it as accurate as i could...not realizing that i could kind of mess about and play around with it because as you said it was a "never was" design. Good insight.
