With the timber flight deck sealed work could
begin on the deck edging.
Preparation for this involved measuring and
marking out the line for the outer strip. A simple
jig was used to ensure that the styrene strip
corresponds on a parallel line the outer deck edge,
particularly were there is a curve along this edge.

This outer strip forms the edge of the spurnwater
and is made up using Evergreen styrene {121} 0.5x 0.5mm

This is followed by the inner strip, which is formed
using a combination of Evergreen 121 0.5x 1mm in
a full length and a further strip cut into small sections
and set in place.

A timber spacer was used to ensure that the gap remains constant

The purpose of this on Kiev is to act as a steel barrier
around the flight deck were aircraft are parked or moved
around the deck . The use of Evergreen styrene strips are quite satisfying. Further strips forming the handling and crane rails
will remain untill a later date once the flight deck surface is
prepared with a primer coat.
