Positive Photo Resist

Post by Brian »

I am in the process of designing some custom PE, first time, for one of my projects and have been unable to find any Positive Photo Resist to coat the brass sheet with. I have completed the design on AutoCad and I am ready to go to the next step. CRC Industries, over the pond, offers this as Positiv 20. I have searched the internet and have not found a supplier / distributor in the states.

This is a great website. You guy's are the best.

Google photo resist and get the chemical name. Then search around your area for that. I forget what it's called, but you should be able to find it at any chemical supply shop locally. If not, micro mark sells kits with it included I believe.

Drew,

Spent some more time on the internet today and was able to locate a couple of leads for materials. I checked out Micro-Mark and they do offer a complete kit for etching. Micro-Mark lists cost of approx $120.00 U.S.
I would prefer to fork out $15 / $20 for a can of resist than to spend $120.00. I could pick up another kit with the $120. Is this a sick thought or what? It is a sickness!! I love it though.

Oh joy! :lol_1: Only $120, sheesh, get two for that then :rolf_3:

There are local places for it. I got my last bottle from an electronics wholesale supplier. You may even be able to find some at Radio Shack. Try even the local hich schools and tech universities electronics dept. for some or at least a supplier.

After surfing the net I have come up with a few sites,in the U.S., which offer the chemicals to etch etc... I have not ordered from these sites so I can't attest to their integrity.

ROHM & HAAS (INDUSTRIAL SUPPLER)
ABRA ELECTRONICS (NEW YORK)
OCEAN STATE ELECTRONICS (RHODE ISLAND)
ELECTRONIX EXPRESS (NEW JERSEY)
MINUTE MAN ELECTRONICS (?????)

Radio Shack, to the best of my knowledge, does not offer a Photo Resist.

I would recommend that anyone who is going to do any etching to obtain a Material Safety Data Sheet for the chemicals that they will be using. The MSDS should be available from the manufactures web site. Some of this stuff is pretty toxic and should be handled / used with care.
