New Renown Book

Post by Monty Mills »

Hi All,

Just this morning I received some wonderful news in an e-mail from Peter Smith, the author of the 1979 book, "Hit First, Hit Hard, HMS Renown 1916-1948". Mr. Smith tells me he has found a publisher for a new and expanded version. The new book will be retitled, "HMS Renown 1916-1948" and will be ready for publishing in the spring of 2008 by Pen-and-Sword Maritime.

That is all the info I have for now but, I am in contact with Mr. Smith and I would be happy to forward any questions you may have.
Regards,
Monty

Great news! This book is very expensive on the used book market, I'll definitely keep an eye out for the new release.

I have Mr. Smith's first book on Renown and many of his others. I look forward to the new edition and hopefully some expanded coverage of Renown's career.
Now if someone can tell me how to contact Mr. Smith, I'de like to make it clear to him that us fans of the Royal Navy would like him to put his skills to work on writting an operational history of the Abdiel class fast cruiser minelayers. When he has finished with that, he can set to work on the Hunt class Destroyers as well! These two classes need their own books written about them.

Great news, I have his Destroyer Flotilla Book which he updated and expanded.
I probably won't but this new Renown one though as I have the original.

Laurence,

The new and expanded Renown book will contain considerably more info than the original. I have asked Mr. Smith for some insight regarding the new info but, I am still waiting for his reply.

If I use his Destroyer Flotilla as a guide it won't be worth buying again for just the snippets that expand it.
I'd happy to be wrong though.
