just wanted to let you know that Clark Ward has an excellent article on the fate of the USS Milwaukee in the latest edition of the Scuttlebutt.

This must be about the armored cruiser Milwaukee, since the Omaha class vessel met an ordinary fate at the hands of shipbreakers.

yup. a rather unusual fate...especially since in the end it proved unnecessary.
