It's not who you are, but what you do that defines you.

here is my idea:kennylibben wrote:http://www.cnn.com/2007/WORLD/africa/10/29/somalia.pirates/index.html
All the old ww2 ships still left should be made usable and then private people could go "pirate hunting" on them. Imagine a pirate hunting adventure!
How do you tell a communist? Well, it's someone who reads Marx and Lenin. How do you tell an anti-Communist? It's someone who understands Marx and Lenin. - Ronald Reagan

What's to keep private people from becoming pirate themselves?

If I have a ship that can blow any coast guard vessel out of the water, and I see a rich prize coming by full of $ cargo and passengers, then I will have no trouble whatsoever imagining how I can rationalize taking the cargo as my own and turning passengers as hostage to be ransomed without thinking myself any the less for it.

nevermind, its not over yet!
seems the report of the crew taking over was on a DIFFERENT VESSEL in the same area which was hijacked... this one, NORTH KOREAN! The USN is treating the wounded aboard a seperate destroyer in somali waters.
The incident i orginally report is still going on for the 2nd day. I believe the USN is refraining from attacking because they don't want to injure any crewmembers still alive, or damage the ship as that might cause a lot of trouble.

Hostages mean trouble. Take the cargo, be strict to the men, gallant to the ladies and hand out lollies to the children, and you'll be the media people's darling!
Even better, try to get an embedded reporter who can wax lyrics on your mighty ship that runs on eco fuel and has advanced recycling facilities...

I had no idea I was saving the planet when I instituted the practice of chaining the passengers to rowing benches and throw their corpses over the side after they die. I thought I was just being a brutal and sadistic pirate!

You don't get it, do you?
You don't throw corpses over the side. You decompose them, for heaven's sake. Do listen to your PR people, that's good for you!

Actually, as Uday Hussein proved, an industrial plastic shredder is the best way to finish off your enemies. It's a little slower on the uptake, so they remain awake longer to enjoy the experience.Chuck wrote:JWintjes wrote:

If an unfriendly power had attempted to impose on America the mediocre educational performance that exists today, we might well have viewed it as an act of war.
