Is there any special technique to scribe a wooden deck in a bare plastic surface? I mean a ship model where a deck that should be a wood one is injected without any detail. I plan to use, a metal rule, a scriber and lots of patience, but wil appreciate if someone could point another suggestion.
Another method is to take a dozen or so needles, cut off the tops, and line them up to form a comb-like structure. Then use a rule to scribe. This way you can make dozens of parallel lines in one sweep.

A variation on that is to tape a dozen or more razor blades together. THere's also a tool that does the same thing, but I cannot remember the name of it.
I haven't tried this (yet), but a razor saw, used in a manner to drag the teeth across the plastic surface, using a steel straight edge as a guide, may also work equally as well?...if anyone has already experimented with this method, let us know if it works or not? In the meantime, good luck.

I have used a blade from a Coventry die chaser (used in a lathe for engineering for screw thread cutting) for scribing parallel lines on a model radiator, just because I happened to have one lying about from a motorcycle restoration project. It would be rather expensive to hunt one down for a model making project, but it occurred to me that it might be possible to make something similar by cutting down or grinding away half of a bolt to give a serrated cutting edge. The advantage is that there is a wide range of threads per inch in screw fasteners and it should be possible to find a thread form which corresponds to the gaps between the deck planks. If you started with a long enough bolt, it may even be possible to scribe all the planks in one go. I have to say I have not used this, but only offer it as a possible solution.
Funnily enough, I was just thinking along similar lines!...I guess great minds think alike eh?

Olfa makes a double bladed stencil cutter Model SC-1 that may work. It comes with 1mm, 1.5mm and 2mm sizes. Once you scribe one straight line it should be an easy matter to do the rest.
