Royal Navy Warship Drawings - Norman Ough

I just picked up a copy of Royal Navy Warship Drawings - Norman Ough which features Daring '32, Dorsetshire '31 Marvel '54 Warspite '31 Cadiz '46 Hedingham Castle '45 Penelope '36. Does anyone know much about the publication - in particular was this part of a series? Also are the plans still commerically available?

Far as I know this book is a one off as I have it also.
The right to reproduce and sell these British plans have recently been bought by an American Taubman plans company and are now selling them:-

There's a small link in the middle of the page to the full range and prices are in $$$
Taubman seems to have got the descriptions and/or photos accompanying each plans incorrect for example they mix up WWI and WW2 built S-class destroyers, so be careful and check what your ordering before you pay for anything.
Be aware though Andrew that nearly all Norman Ough drawings have inaccuraccies and are not as good as a set of 'as fitteds', though of course their much cheaper and everything is usually on 1 or 2 sheets.

Many thanks Laurence - I thought it might be a one off. Thanks also for the warning about accuracy but as you say, the as fitteds get very expensive so unless its for a 'special' subject I try to stick to commercial plans to keep the expenses to something sensible....

Hi Laurence,

Are you thinking of the A&A plans here? As far as I know Norman Ough's plans are still owned by the SS Great Britain Trust. And despite what their website says, Taubman are not currently able to supply the Ough plans.

Yeah sorry I am Paul,
My mistake, teach me to post too late at night!
Sorry Andrew when Norman Ough died it appears he left them to the SS Great Britain Trust in Bristol.
I visited there and contacted them a few years ago and got from them
their last published plans catalogue and price lists and recently someone on this board or SN stated they had finally got their finger out and found a way to copy the plans and were shortly going to be able to sell them to customers again.
Probably with a % of the money going to the Trust.
I believe they have a large waiting list of potential customers as these plans were not available to buy for a number of years.

The other link and info above are for the A and A plans which were the other British plans service from the 1970s run by and drawn by Raven & Roberts.

Andrew, if you're there please try to convince the SS Great Britain Trust to release the Norman Ough plans sooner rather than later.

A message about the David MacGregor Plans - which I believe include the Norman Ough plans - at swmaritime.org.uk indicates that they won't be released until 2009 at the earliest!

The SS Great Britain project which holds this collection have told us that there will be no possibility of supplying copies of these plans until 2009 at the earliest.
