Hi Guys, It seems that last piece of superstructure has to come back off, and be cut down to an open topless bridge,

.

Im trying to work with the BIBB drawings and two photo,s of Duane but my friend who was aboard Duane has sent me a new photo, so off it comes.

see , we can all make mistakes.

Hi Ron you bet we can . Just made 12 lovely WT doors the best I've made to go around the superstructure, had to bin the lot , all WRONG. But we have to do what we have to do.

Hi Guys, I have started on the smoke stack, this is a used silicon cartridge with two pieces of balsa fitted inside to keep the shape.

On top of the stack I have fitted a piece of litho plate, you may notice the top of the bridge has not been altered yet, this will come later.

I have marked out the plate that goes round the stack and put all the rivet sections in place, you can see my trusty clock arm to one side.

Stack placed in position, on top are the 3 outlets these are small port holes with a slite alteration.

Hi Ron, As always she is looking great. One question, on the wooden decks shown in the latest pics, are they built up or do you have another trick to make them so realistic? Keep up the great work I know it helps motovate me. Greg W

Hi Greg, the deck is a piece of plywood marked out with a pencil, these decks are going to be washed BLUE , so I decided to do them the easy way.

Hi Guys, I have made a start on the guards around the guns.

I have used brass sheet, its a little thicker than the litho and I dont need the timber to strengthen it.

A bit of a close up, the brass was super glued in place.

Starboard side rear gun implacement.

Both sections on the starboard side.

Well Ron I see your moving into brass ,now that's different again .You've been watching to much of Harry Barrows work . One day you're going to turn out an all brass model I can see it coming. More power to your elbow. Duane is shaping up to be yet another master piece of scratch building.

USCG Duane is definitely taking shape - it looks great. Although like many metal models it looks so nice unpainted it'd almost be a shame to paint it!

The funnel has turned out well, I might try a similar technique myself in future as I've found it very hard to form a neat cylinder from styrene sheet - the funnel for Peder Skram required a lot of filler + sanding to get a neat oval.
