For those interested, Hasegawa has announced two 1/350 scale IJN equipment sets. One set appears to be mostly ship's boats. The content of the other set is unknown. I would be interested in more of these pedestal mounted binoculars, search lights and signal lamps, and search light directors that are already in the Nagato kit.

Thanks, Timmy. My cynicism is increased by the fact that these are justed repackaging of 2 of Nagato Kit's sprues. But I am happy to see these will give me a number of extra pedastal mounted binoculars and the like, which are always good for dressing up other models.

They are already included in the Nagato kit as sprues AE and AF. Hasegawa is now also packaging them separately, presumably to support other 1/350 IJN kit now on the market. It includes a number of nice to have detail parts that had been omitted from Aoshima's Takao, for example.

It's a lot of (good) work. It seems to me like it would take forever to install the very elaborate Hasegawa P.E.'s. Yet, Kym Knight, of Australia, assembled the whole Nagato, PE's and all, in only ten days!!! See his Diorama of Truk Lagoon in Picture Post. I wonder how he did it.

Sounds like me! I counted over 150 parts on the Pagoda tower, and that's without the AA guns or the P.E. Like I mentioned before, that's more parts than I usually tackle on most of my models.

My work situation only allows me to build sporadically at best, when I do get a chance to sit down, I take my time and work very slowly, I'll be happy if this model gets completed this year.

Some of the most challenging PE on the Nagato sits on the funnel structure and adjacent AA emplacements. The funnel walkway by far being the most problematic. I'm not 100% thrilled with the results, but I'll have to live with it.

Great PE work, but this closed lights platform support completely doesn't match overall effect. It is possible to cut out these openings?

That was my initial thought, but a fellow modeller posted up some computer generated images showing the supports closed just as Hasegawa has them. Go back a few pages and you'll see the link. It does tend to hide some fine detail on the inside of the AA gun platforms though.
