No idea. May be some of our Spanish speaking posters can translate. It says that the photos were taken between Tarifa and Tanger in the Gibraltar straight.

I would hate to be a fighter pilot attacking that ship. On top of her longer ranged SAMs, it looks like there's at least 8 Kashtan mountings, four to a side, in addition to more AK-630's on her sides as well. That thing would chew a plane to shreds in no time.

Euhm, Kuznetsov doesn't have any long range SAM's that I'm aware of. She only carries the Kinzhal and the Tunguska/Kashtan missiles. That's it. Those have a maximum range of about 12km (in limited sectors), and the guns only go about 3-4km max. Any attacking aircraft would launch anti-ship missiles from 100+km away and wouldn't come within the range of any of Kuznetsov's defensive weapons. Her defences are only made to counter incoming missiles, the Su-33 fighters have to take care of attacking aircraft. But with only 13 Sukhois...

Great pictures for sure. In Gibraltar everyone comes close to each other and nobody really bothers. They'll call you to ask for your intentions but that's about it. There isn't that much space in Gibraltar strait. Tarifa is is near the narrowest point of the straight after all.

More surprisingly, her planes were actually armed! That's something they don't really do that much! Most of the time they're just sitting there unarmed, I guess the weapons training is being done mostly from their land base with their sea going time devoted to flight operations (and hence fuel saving and less risk without the missiles).

No word on the ship where the photos were taken from. It seems it was a guy on a ferry from Spain to Morocco.

Don't know the full battlegroup strength, but it seems that the immediate escort was the two Udaloy's and Moskva (Slava class) that deployed from the Black Sea to meet the group in the Med. Moskva even fired the P-500 antiship missile at the target. In addition several Tu-160 BlackJacks also participated in maneuvers performing simulated missile launches over the bay of Biscay.

Has anyone given thought to the fact that the Russians are trying to flex their naval muscle to the rest of Europe? They could have had these maneuvers anywhere, but they chose a point far from home. Interesting...

Besstrashniy doesn't exist anymore, she's renamed Admiral Ushakov since 2005 or 2004. I don't think she was in this exercise though.

They're just doing their exercises not so far from home, they have rescue and salvage units coming from the Black Sea and Baltic fleet in case of emergency. If they'd do this exercise in the Pacific they'll have less units available and all have to come from Vladivostok in that case. North Sea fleet is still their most important fleet, so they have to do their exercises either in the North or the Atlantic... Quite logical, we don't really feel threatened by that.

Gday all and for those interested in knowing what I have been up to..

The bow has been modified a bit since the pictures were taken but since what everyone has been commenting on you must realize you are seeing the inside of the ship. The fiberglass goes over the foam plug and this will change the look of the bow in general.

Next question is what period will I build the model, simple answer is I will be glad just to build the model. With all the images I get online and sent to me I will be glad if I get something that looks good in the end. I'm not looking for a museum piece because this model will end up in the water and a WORKING model.

I keep getting a strange question asked and that is how will I transport my model? Well I have to keep telling the people I wont worry about it till I need to. I wont have to worry about that for at least a year or 2. If I have to test the model well I have friends that can help me with a local swimming pool. All I have to do is walk it around an some sort of trolley.

I will be restarting my model this easter after having to wait for enough funds to continue.
This weekend I am of to the shop to buy the material for fiberglassing. I just hope I don't have a heart attack with what it will cost me for the material.
