cutting mats

i've noticed a lot of people using green mats with printed spaced sqares on them. Am i right in thinking thease are cutting mats and where can i get one as im slowly cutting through my desk

If you do a UK Google for "Self Healing Cutting Mat " you will find you can get them from all sorts of places.
If you have a Hobbycraft, or a decent craft shop in your area, you should be able to pick one up there.

Craft Stores and Sewing Stores are a couple of good places. You might even find several other things that will work for modeling.

They're self healing mats. The knife doesn't leave any grooves in them. The also are a little rough so whatever is being cut doesn't slip easily. They also come in other colors. I've had a grey one and a blue one.
