Hello all, I've finally started work on my massive BB that I've named the USS OHIO. In the 40's a bb was named the ohio but never was built so I stole her name since that is were I live ,so I figured that was as good of a name as any. The ship is supposed to be in the 40's time line but just about everything I'm putting into her is going to be larger ,wider, and way more armed than anything ever built so I geuss you can say it's a what if project. A what if project if my warped mind ever was in charge of designing a ship. :cool_2: But this is what I have done so far.
Image
The above is how I was able to mark somewhat straight lines for the cuts.
Image
That is a pic of the lengthening I made on the top you can see how much I cut out of the 2nd bismarck hull.
Image
This is a pic of the widening I'm making,In the middle is the beam line i extended, to either side of the wide section is the width of the hull from the factory. Please let me know what you think, all comments are welcome and hopefully more updates coming soon.

:rolf_3: Thanks yall,I do believe it'll probably take about a year to finish, but are you ready for the weird part.I cut the tail end off of a titanic model I had sitting around just to widen the stern some, you'll see why in a month or so when I get the deck done, but I should have some of the tail up tomorrow. Thanks for looking.

Hey Jef, Right now I'm toying with the armament,But I do know I'm taking the main guns and combining them to make quads (yeah baby) then for the second battery I was going to take the mains off of a 1/700 arizona and then for a third battery I was going to use the bismarcks second battery( if that makes any since). Then I was going to add at least 8 tri torpedo launches half forward and half aft. After that i'm thinking of just searching for the biggest baddest AA I can find and just put them every where I can.But as far as the dimensions go ( since your in Europe) the length is 85.73 cm ,the beam is 12.29 cm.

Your dimensions give at 1/350 scale ; 300mmx43m !!!
:woo_hoo:
A Monster

Did you install 4 quad turrets ( a double Bismarck) ?

With 43 m beam, you can install 380 wing turrets

I test the size with SpringSharp...

Jef,Thanks. I never knew of such a thing as springsharp. that is really cool. :woo_hoo: Yes I'm going to install 4 quad main guns, by gluing 2 of the mains together filling sanding, repeating, repeating, repeating, repeating.Oh all the filling and sanding this project is going to bring. :doh_1: Does anyone have advice on a putty. I'm using squadron's putty. it's okay but dries way to fast to form a long seam line.

Go to Walmart and get a tube of Bondo. The stuff works great. About 1/2 hour drying time and a very fine grain.

4 is not enough ; Overall increase to 1.24 !!!

Your hull (300x43 - 77 000T) is made for 6 quads

For 4 quads , 277x37.2 - 57 500T is enough

Jef, You got me thinking!!!! I would like to go with the 6 quads. That would be really sweet. But I've got a question. The secondary battery is 4 tri 5" guns ( I think that's what it works out to ), and the third battery is going to be twin 5" recessed down the midship line. How would that effect the mains, could I still use the 6 quads or would I have to go with 4 quads? speaking about weight . Any ways I only have enough turrets to make 4. Unless someone has 4 turrets I could get from them :wink_3.gif :wink_3.gif

Honestly? I am very impressed with your kitbashing skills! Well done and I can't wait to see it finished. Have any drawings of what it might look like? :thumbs_up_1: :thumbs_up_1:

The size of the BB need 200 000SHP for 29.3 kts
4 propellers are the minimum - 4x 50 000shp
5 propellers are better - 5x40 000shp
Choose what is better to scratch for your model ...?
------------------
For the 37 mmm & 20mm guns, you can instal more, idem for TT x533mm
& aircraft installation...because, you have 400 T reserve weight :thumbs_up_1:

:woo_hoo: What a powerfull BB to come !!!
