rusting a u-boat
I am almost done with my nichimo. has anyone ever tried making a basin full of rust water and dipping a whole sub in it? I have never weathered a whole boat before and do not have pastels or things just acrylic rust paint.

DON"T DO IT!
How many subs have you heard of complety covered in rust? Now how many photos have you seen to support the fact?
Possibly 1 the German sub raised after 40 yrs & put on display in the UK. But not any sub that was in constant use
Marine growth would show more likely.
The paint & anti fouling coatings will stop most rust but some will occur at paint breaks where the hull has hit/rubbed against something, etc
These 2 piccys, used with permission, of a new paper model kit ( must put something in the forum about it) released last week show the small amount of rust that is required.
A little bit goes a long way with rust, also old tea bags allow for a rust look just run the liquid from the used teabag onto the surface.

Thanks, my first plan was to just do those streaks on the openings and rivet areas with a small brush.
