weathering job ruined

I weathered my u-boat nice with pastels then sprayed it with testors dullcote and its splotchy and ruined. does tamiya make a better dull cote spray to seal in weathering?

When using testors 1260 Dull Coat I have found it best to ever so lightly mist the model to set the weathering. If you spray too heavy on the 1st coat it wipes out what you did.

I use tamiya Weathering Master Semi Wet paints (similar to a pastel) and to much Dull Coat and you might as well never done the weathering.

Krylon also make #1311 Artist Matte Finish that will seal your colors/weathering and when finished you can give the completed ship a shot of Dull Coat.

Thanks for the tip, It seems like I can repair the light spots with dark pastels and the dark spots with grey and get it looking like it was. I did spray it on kind of heavy as it was outdoors and 32 degrees F out.

RESIST the temptation! It is cold up here in Pennsylvania and I am resisting every temptation to go spray painting my models outside. The paint will not flow out properly or stick properly under 50 degrees farenheight, though I recommend at the minimum 60 degress (or whatever the can says). I have paid the price for this mistake and got similar results, be careful when spraying in cold weather!

I agree with Jadefalcon.....Don't spray in cold weather. Dull Coat is a Lacquer and will do anything funky it can when sprayed in the cold. If I am really desperate I will leave a can of Dull Coat on top of the water heater for a day or so, shake the heck out of it and head to the garage or a room off the garage and just mist the model from 12-18 inches away.

Then return said can of Dull Coat to the water heater. This is a good time to keep your weathering as Dull Coat will also leave a rougher surfuse and you may be able to add some weathering back in than mist again.
