Calling all Lexington-class battlecruiser fans

Post by Carthaginian »

Hello everyone,
I hope its okay to mention that a scratchbuilt version of the above listed ship (certainly my favourite concept ship) is currently on offer at the BIG BIG AUCTION SITE (no one evers seems to call it by name, and I'm not sure why, but i'll be safe and play along). Being a computer Luddite I don't know how to do links, or such stuff, so just use the above title to find it. By the way its not me selling it, I just thought the community would be interested in seeing it.
Makes me wish I had $1000 lying around somewhere.
By the way "CADMAN", if I'm not supposed to post stuff like this, let me know.
Hey! that's two posts in one day, I'm getting bold in my dotage

Link to auction is here.

Since when did Lexington BC have flat sided funnels with funnel caps, and angular sided main turrets?!

Most drawings I have seen of the Lexington class battlecruisers, at least in the "final form", had flat sided funnels. As for the "angular sided turrets", while those on this particular model don't look up to par, the concept is not that far off. Again, most drawings of the Lexington's depict an enlarged "Arizona type" turret, in spite of the fact that the USN had moved on to flat-plate construction for all of its large turrets. This change was for ease of construction and repair. I am fairly confident that had the ships been built as battlecruisers, the turrets would not have been "Arizona type" since nothing else (capital ship wise), from the New Mexico's on, had major curves. The first drawings I saw of the South Dakota (BB-49) class had "Arizona type" turrets, but later depictions changed to the flat-plate type, something that is now widely accepted. I would think that the same should apply to the Lexington's.

You can post links to Ebay here- it's on Steelnavy they frown upon that.
