Plans for SMS Von der Tann and Nassau class?

Post by IroncladNut »

Greetings,

Does anybody know of a good set of large scale plans for the SMS Von der Tann or the Nassau class dreadnoughts? I'm currently stuck trying to decide between 4 different ships I would like to build an RC model of in 1/72 scale... the above listed, and the Moltke and Helgoland class ships.

I'm more of a fan of Von der Tann than the others, but haven't found many sources of plans. Taubman lists a 1/200 scale set from SMC, which I believe is in Russia. I ordered a set from SMC for the Sinop class predreadnoughts, they were good, but not great. My fear is trying to upscale fairly small 1/200 plans to 1/72.... since it will be a sailing model... I'd really like an accurate hull.

I haven't found much of anything on the Nassau class...

VTH has plans for the Moltke... can anyone comment on their accuracy?

Found lots of plans for the Helgoland class, ranging from 1/100 to 1/200 scale. 1/100 is from an Italian company, and the 1/200 is from Japan. The Italian set is considerably more expensive... but I don't mind paying a fair amount of money for good plans.

I've heard that there is a place in Germany similar to the NMM that might have plans for the HSF ships?

There is also a company in Germany ( I'll have to dig up the link ) that makes fantastic looking (expensive!!) 1/100 scale models of HSF ships, including VdT. They had to get their info from someplace...

If anybody can point me in the right direction I would be very grateful. My soon to be laid down 1/72 SMS Blucher needs a companion

Ooo - I can't help with plans, but my long-to-be-completed 1/72nd Dreadnought also needs "companions". Shame I'm not near Texas!

Are you still plating the hull? ;)

A good while back I was going to build a 1/72 scale model of the Seydlitz... but its really right at the limit weight-wise of something I'd want to build, lug around. So I'm trying to go with smaller, lighter ships.

I'm not sure your Dreadnought would want companions like my (hopefully) soon to be built HSF ships. Spies from around the shipyard are hinting that these may be the prototypes for a whole new generation of RC combat ships...

Hint, cough, wink, coughs again. But I cannot confirm or deny these rumors :cool_2:

No! THAT's all finished. And since I found myself with some sanity left...

...I'm planking the decks. :lol_3:

R/C combat, eh? I'll stay well clear then!
