Hey guys,

Just saw online that Trumpeter had put out both 1/200 and 1/350 Sovremenny-class destroyers

I was wondering if there were any detail sets besides the WEM brass-PE set for the 1/200 model. I am looking for anything in the way of details for guns, the helo, etc etc.
I've heard that there were a set of resin guns made for this kit...but a google search turned nothing up

Please let me know

WEM produces the replacement turrets:

As to PE for the kit, I do not believe there are any options other than WEM and the kit's own PE.

WEM also did the upgrade turrets for the 1/200, and the PE set includes details for the Helo, etc.

I am unaware of any other 1/200 detail sets other than the WEM set- which I have, and is fantastic!

WEM's set is the only one and you could hardly wish for more.
As well they are doing the turrets in corrected shape. Even though they are not 100% perfect, the are miles and miles better than the clumsy igloos provided in the kit.
The 350th kit does not need replacement for the turrets as the are alomst perfect all by themselves.

I visited Boyevoy and Admiral Vinogradov in 1990 (Udaloy and Sovremennyy classes, respectively). I was assembling the new Skywave/Pit Road kits of both ships at the time and recognized Testors gunmetal enamel as a very good match for the near-black color of the main weather decks. The deck-mounted rails to various launchers and over the stern for, apparently, minelaying, were the same color.

Has anyone technically identified the specific material that coats or plates these decks? Photo DN-SC-93-04774 at http://www.dodmedia.osd.mil/ is a close-up of the deck. Combat Fleets of the World describes the main weather decks as bare metal. I couldn't rule out that these decks were coated in lacquer or an anti-corrosive preservative.

Trumpeters Udaloy IMHO is their best ship in 1-350 scale ship ( ok I have Hood in my to do pile) it justy looks SO RIGHT I am very happy that they have seen to do what is realy a quite rare ship ( there was only on of the 4 started completed) the changes to ship are really quite major only some of the weapon spures and the hull are reusable, so there was a lot of work for trumpeter to ( Just honing their skills for the County Class series) OK I can live in hope

The hull and the hangar deck are about it... forward superstructure, the top is altered, the ridge the Cross Swords set for the SA-N-9's is shortened, to make space for the forward radome, possibly targetting for the Moskits, as it replaces the two Eye Bowl radar sets. The forward rise is actually narrowed, allowing the Moskits to rest at a lower angle. The aft superstructure is also modified, the rise for the second level is shorter along the stack, to make space for the Kashtan, and also at a narrowing angle towards the stack. There's also a wall extension on the aft deck from there, leaning into a curve, blocking where the torpedo tubes used to be. Though I notice the Trumpeter model missing the stack covers. That's the list of differences for the Udaloy vs Udaloy II. I've managed some, I've bypassed others, mine's like a Udaloy 1.6. If I'd known about the forward superstructure, I might have done that, amidst much more putty and cursing. The hangar and the hull are the only things the same, really, aside from that, it's a whole new boat.

I'm just putting together a 1:700 Dragn Sovremenny, not a bad kit at all. PE especially is very well done. I'm aiming to model a Sov, the Kuznetsov, a Kirov, a Slava, an Udaloy and a Kirvak. One ship for each class in the Black Sea fleet. Do any of you guys know the names of any of the ships in the black sea fleet? I want to make the models as authentic as possible. I'm pretty new to Russian warships, but they are the most syleish I have ever seen! Are there any modifications I might have to make to the kits to get the details right? I know that some of the Kirovs differ, and I'm not sure if they still operate Udaloy I's. Do you guys have any advice? You really seem to know your stuff !

Black Sea fleet doesn't operate any Sovremennies nor Udaloys. Only a Slava and some Krivaks are there, apart from of course amphibs and patrol boats.
