My 1/350 AXIS Roma model IS making good progress--but not as fast as a 1/700 project--mainly because I keep on trying to improve and refine things--spurred on by the fabulous 1:100 Barbieri model--which is of course 3.5 times larger--and just about perfect--

....I feel I am failing to emulate the sheer QUALITY and sharpness of that model--but 3.5 times smaller is a bit trickier to keep it all looking sharp...

anyhow-- I keep on going--suffice it to say MW will be the first place it will be revealed!

A quick update on the Axis Models Roma progress.

...the model is slowly nearing completion --much small scratch-building still to be done--and the painting of all the crew-members, the creation of the seababse and finishing off the masts...-bingo...!! hehehhe

It's only just now that I have gotten around to looking at Giancarlo's web site for his magnificent huge Roma. Migod, has there ever been a more perfect model? I hope he did his research because I'd hate to think all that excrutiating effort did not represent correct perfection.

I'd use it for reference when I build my 1/700 version anytime.

The Barbieri model is truly SUPREME ...

I think it really is the best ship model I have ever seen--I have been unable to find a single flaw or misalignment in the entire model--and I have studied in on-screen for Hours!!!

My comments below are intended in no way to detract from that singularly perfect model

BUT... it represents a 'Utopian' fit--ie as designed...

ROMA was never completed exactly as the model depicts-- War conditions dictated that Roma was finished in a somewhat more utilitarian manner--for example no where near as many boats were ever carried!!-- less aircraft- if any....

I am building mt model of the Roma as at trials -- and there are a number of items which had not been fitted--or carried in a different manner--its all fascinating stuff--and I have been kindly and most ably supported by Giampiero Galeotti of Regia Marine models with photos and advice etc etc

Yes, I have seen Patrizio's stunning model and it is an inspiration ( as are yours, Jim, BTW... )

Interesting that you made that point about the number of boats Roma carried. That was one of the first things I noticed, the abundance of boats. No other BB I can think of is modeled with so many. All I could think of was that in action, that's a lot of kindling to brew up.

As a sheer aesthetic comment, I have always disliked the red/white stripe scheme on the forecastle decks of the Italian BBs and CAs.

I'm an italian man that love battleships. I know quit well the Littorio class and I'm making the Roma in 3d. I would like to give some details that can be need like the AA gunmachines Breda 20/65 and 381 guns but I wil be very happy to help you for the details picture (if I know!)
