Plans for U534

Post by H.A. Baker »

I read in the LIverpool Daily Post today that U534 is to be, and I can't believe this, cut into FOUR sections and displayed as four sections at the Liverpool Ferry terminal at Woodside Birkenhead. The idea is to put plate glass on the open ends of each section so visitors can squint inside.

The reason given for cutting her up is 'ease of transportation' as cost to move her in one piece would be astronomical. I personally think this nothing short of vandalism on a large scale.

Whoever thought this up should be shot and no blindfold or fag.

It's already been cut up!
Mind you it seems to give a better idea as to the interior structure.

Looks rather a crude job. I hope they try some restoration before they button up the sections.

Mind you Chicago had no trouble at all moving the type IXC U-505 about a 1/4 mile or so and then down four floors so she could be sealed into her sarcophagus. I believe her current display is the most stunning museum presentation of a human artifact on the planet.

The movie below covers both overland moves.

If an unfriendly power had attempted to impose on America the mediocre educational performance that exists today, we might well have viewed it as an act of war.
