Hi Guys ,

"Zinnia" has hit the water for the first time :

the skipper nearby , to give you some idea of the size :

Well , I'm a little disappointed in the sailing capabilities of such model , the top speed is attained very fast , but this top speed is very low for the moment , I think I'll change the batteries , from 4.8 Volts now to 6 Volts in the future .

The propeller has a too little pitch , time to scratchbuild one ...

Going into reverse is a real nightmare , the model needs three to four lengths to stop before she steams backward , the prop makes a lot of cavitation before it "takes" in the water and then , she goes well backward , the propeller is the cause here again ...

But she turns very well on the water with the rudder having been build following plan , no enlargment was needed , and she rolls heavily while at sea , but this is normal with such thin hull lines .

thanks for the comments

about the clothes , as I used to be blond ( completely grey/white now) , my skin dislikes sun , so I wear most of the times a hat , this one is a USN sailor's hat I bought 20 years ago abord the USS La Salle ( or was it the USS Coronado , I visited both ) , the shirt is a gift from my beloved , I found it was opportune to wear it on this very occasion

Me too, for a second there I thougth she was bigger,she looks great on water Laurent

I'm really happy for having been there , my first participation at a IGKM meeting but not the last one , you all are just wonderful guys !

Thanks for having put the video on youtube . I changed the former battery ( 4.8 V ) to a 6 volts one , much better to attain top speed , even if the Graupner propeller doesn't allow a quick astern motion ...

some german modellers were also curious to see how a wooden hull covered with paper could sail without being ripped off in the water ...

I got a lot of questions about that !

Looks very nice on the water - and runs amazingly well for a cardboard model! Ballasting the hull must have been quite a tricky job.

Hi EPinniger ,

no troubles at all , I just ballasted the model with some bolts and the batteries , everything remained tight into the hull . the cardboard plating didn't move at all , proof that my system is viable ...

I'll improve the ballasting some day , using lead glued on the bottom of the hull .

The rudder is conform to plan , no enlargement was needed ...

I'm now on vacation in southern France , near the meditterranean sea , I built the last days 2 dinghies & 1 motor boat , some escape hatches & lockers , everything out of paper & cardboard as usual , I'll take some pictures when I'm back at home .

Hi Laurent,

good to see, that at least your project improves. I had a lot of troubles down here, job, cic, etc, etc. so at first I had absolutely no time and now that I have time, I have to get back on the workbench again as I am lacking inspiration. But anyway I am very sorry to miss you and your wonderful Drifter at Wuppertal. We will meet, I am sure, but don't know when yet...
