May I present: HMS Renown scratch conversion, begun circa 1982-83, a full quarter-century and four U.S. presidents ago. I did manage to replace a main battery turret I lost somewhere along the way, which I tossed into the project's binbox about four years ago; other than that, it's no further along now than it was in 1984.
I've got the plans, now what?

Both you fine gentlemen are mere rookies at project stand-stills!

I prefer to think of myself as building slowly, rather than standing still. There's a difference! (I think the difference is that I know I'll get there - the Dreadnought is not put to one side and left alone if I have spare time).RNfanDan wrote:Both you fine gentlemen are mere rookies at project stand-stills!![]()
Tony and Kaiser are beating me with their six years, but in my two years I'm still not near the water, not built anything above the decks other than the masts and boats, and there's no paint on the hull yet. My plans to make every vessel in the Grand Fleet, at this rate, will take me to until about 3508AD.

I am like Andy, I actually am working on Pommern, just agonizingly slowly......I spend 49% of my time straining my eyes looking at enlarged period photos, and another 49% of my time standing in front of it, scratching my head and trying to figure out how to do it...Only 2% is actually doing it......

Ah...the delights of scratchbuilding!Tony & Kaiser wrote:I am like Andy, I actually am working on Pommern, just agonizingly slowly......I spend 49% of my time straining my eyes looking at enlarged period photos, and another 49% of my time standing in front of it, scratching my head and trying to figure out how to do it...Only 2% is actually doing it......
I could, I suppose, build a kit out-of-a-box - but I'd find it a bit soulless, merely following instructions and using the materials provided. What ARH exemplifies on this board (and why I've loved following his builds) has been that when experience meets scrounging and is coupled with an eye for what looks good - he delivers.

Thanks for that Andy, I was a little annoyed with Ingura not for posting the picture but for leaving off the text, the picture on its own made it look as though the vessel was out of shape, and not in its early stages of being built.
If I had posted something that was critical of the build I could have understood it, but pointing out that there was an alterative build on this board, I was only trying to be help full, is that not the name of the game at MW,s

Simple but effective.
