Kenny, I don't expect total historical accuracy.

But I expect common sense - at least a tiny bit of it. A single-engined land-based prop scout right in the middle of the Atlantic simply is nonsense, not to speak of all the other totally bizarre and crappy details.

As a matter of fact, Pearl Harbour was the better movie by quite some margin.

edit: That should read "the less uber-crappy movie"...

Yeah, I was a bit let down ... but I expected worse.

Chuck, as I said - I went only for entertainment and knew it to be completely false and inaccurate - what bothered me was the fact that everyone thought it WAS accurate. Sure, letting people think 10,000 BC was when the pyramids were built is bad ... but the common person (at least from my experience) isn't very good at the whole timeline thing anyways... if it was before the American Revolution, it's extremely old. If it was before the birth of Jesus, it's ancient. Actually, if it's before The New World was discovered, it's practically ancient.

By those standards, Cicero might as well have invented the wheel.

Since this thing is morphing into anything but Naval movies, and since non-action has been discussed so much. How about Paths of Glory, directed by Stanley Kubrick. Kirk Douglas gives a great out of character performance.

If you're going to expand it, I want to put a vote in for We Were Soldiers. Especially the outtake with Westmoreland, McNamara and Col. Moore. Kind of summarizes all the mistakes in one scene.

Abel Gance's Napoleon is still one of the greatest war films ever made if you ask me.... I think it could fall under both, action and non-action.

Small groups of hunter gatherers grouped around a campfire making stone arrowheads and the women sewing some skins together. Right in the depths of the "Younger Dryas" a cold spell equal to the worst of the last glacial maximum! Permanent year round settlements all abandoned and very small groups engaged in ice age hunting. The warmer areas all dried out and people living on the margine of life. The movie would have been quite a bore.

Oh, yes. That destroyer. Not only could the Kriegsmarine somehow send a destroyer out to the Atlantic, but the said destroyer can double as a harbor tug when it returns to port.
