From a post card I recently won on e-bay - HMS Queen Elizabeth, circa late 'teens or early 20's. There appears to be a smaller ship behind her...note the mast coming up from behind #2 turret.

Gentlemen,
Among the many projects I have startedd, planned, and simply stared at is the conversion of the Airfix HMS Warspite to HMS Valiant .
I have the 2 Airfix magazine articles, and some pictures of layout, but even acknowleding my own meagre skills, how can I fix the bow? I've thought about filing it down so it is sharper, but wondered if there has been an easier way discovered?

Any advice helps, I may even get it done past the deck-chopping stage.

I just hope that a 1/350 Warspite in plastic is forthcoming from our Chinese friends :cool_2: In the big scale I tend to prefer plastic over resin because of the ease of work and also the price factor considering the enormous shipping costs and taxes I have to pay once the item has passed through customs

I already have built a 1/600 Warspite but I always said that if this ship was ever made in 1/350 I would rebuild it in the same fit (1942 camouflage). Someone heard my pleas but not the right manufacturer for me!!!! :lol_pound:

Hi Sylvain

Glad to see another Warspite fan here. We have been waiting too long. I feel where you are coming from, hoping that Trump, will release one. However I can't wait any longer and I will be getting one of the Resin ones, even with the problems that come with it.

A while back I took the stand that I can no longer support Trump. products. Unless they are handheld by another entity such as the Hood people their products are just terrible. Go back as far as the Hornet, and then the last two US Battleships, which I was going to buy, but I can't. Why? because you can't reward a company for producing what they are.

Take Care, is it still cold back East?

Hi Mike!

It's the first week that temperatures stay above freezing! I think we may just have seen the end of winter but I'll wait until June or July to be absolutely sure  :thumbs_up_1:

I'll go back to building Repulse and waiting for the elusive Warspite in plastic!

Cheers :wave_1:

You are wise to defer until June/July, Sylvain! :lol_1:

Those residing in our latitudes who "trust" in April forget that, as soon as they put away the shovels, from their blind quarter comes The Old Man's final punch for the season! :heh:

Hope your projects are going well for you!

It's especially true for this winter! I have a difficult time remembering a winter with more snow. At least it gave us a good modelling season :thumbs_up_1:

I should send you some pics soon to show you some progress made on my current project. I don't want to hijack the tread with informations not relevant to the QE class

Hello everybody!

I am looking for plans to build my ISW kit of HMS QE as HMS Valiant in 1941. Before the Italian attack. I want to build her fast as I have HMS Warspite kit waiting her turn. Wonderful ships!!

Hi Mikko,

For plans you might want to get your hand on the German edition of "British Battleships of World War 2" by John Roberts and Alan Raven. It has all the plans for the QE class in WW2 and its far cheaper that the OOP original edition. If you are a Royal Navy fan then this book is definitely for you!

Hello All!

I ordered a set of Valiant plans from NMM. I`m pretty frustrated with the money wasted. They show Valiant as rebuilt in 1939 and 1946. No wartime modifications... aargh.

Well, they do show the mushroom ventilator locations...

And I found a blurry picture of Valiant in 1942 with a degaussing cable?! It is halfround pipe running around her stern. Picture is from a Polish book called biblioteka magazynu or something and I think it is taken from a movie? Does anyone have pictures of valiant in 1942? Maybe I should draw a picture of this cable and post it here? Or is it OK to show a scanned picture in here?

Her camouflage in the picture is a bit different from that shown in Ensign book.

So. I think i have enough information to build HMS Valiant 1942.

I edited this post with a picture from 1941...and I have No idea what else is different with her camouflage.

Does anyone know if Barham had painted decks or not in the scheme she was wearing when sunk?

Mike
Interesting question. I have found no mention in the following publications:
-British Battleships of WW2 by Alan Raven and John Roberts
- Ensign QE class battleships by Alan Raven and John Roberts

However the BS Press Profile Morskie #44 has a 1/400 full colour profile&plan showing her as in 1941 in her camo pattern but with weather deck in natural wood. The problem with this publication is a relative lack of accuracy

I think the person to ask is John Snyder. WEM should release soon their 1/700 Barham kit.

I will give him a call tomorrwo and keep you posted

cheers

Hello Mike,

I have just spoken to John Snyder. He confirms that her decks were unpainted when HMS Barham capsized. It appears clearly on the pictures.

cheers

We have discussed this before on these forums for Dino's Barham build I believe.
Some of her decks were painted or covered Mike, see below:

Those photos don't look like Barham to me, certainly the top one.
