I checked on navysite.de and pulled up the Ranger deployments and it looks like Ranger went from Demons and Crusaders to two squadrons of Phantoms on the '64-'65 cruise so it would appear that they never deployed with F-8's and F-4s. It also appears that they always had RA-5s instead of RF-8s as well.
Mark, I have to disagree with you CVW-9 abd Ranger 1964/65 had RF-8s as well as RA-5Cs. There is a well known photo of RA-5C 149312 (my uncle's a/c in 1966) being escorted by a VFP-63 FR-8. There were F-4Bs abd too. http://usn-ac-japan.hp.infoseek.co.jp/CVW/cva-61.htm

1/800 ARii 1/800 CV-59 backdating to 1961 (CVA-59)
1/700Trumpy USS Hornet CV-8 "Doolittle Raiders"
I belive that the RF-8 from VFP-63 was working with CVW-9, but they may not have deployed together. You would not normally see an RA-5 and RF-8 deployed together on a cruise. That may explain the discrepency with the airwing deployment info posted on a couple of web sites. It would be very possible to have them together durring work ups or CQ dets.

Good point there Mark. I have run across a similar problem with CVW-14 1965/66 pertaining to the various A-3 sqns that were assigned to "Ship's Company" during "At Sea" periods.
VAH-2 had A-3Bs & KA-3BS and were part of the CVW. But,
VAP-61, VAW-13 and VQ-1 were not assigned to CVW-14. Just the CVA.
Navy records are questionable at times.

The only reason that I can not use wood or styrene is that I'm still 13 but it would still be nice to use styrene If I can find them since it's very rare here in Cebu.
I'm only using paper from folders, lots of them! I have approximately wasted more than 50 folders on my other scratchbuilds. I still hope that Earth would be kind to me

Hello Forrestal class fans....!
My first carrier, a1/800 Saratoga CV 60 ( im going to use number CV 62, U.S.S. Independence, as a Friend was assigned to her in the 90's and i should have went with him ) Anyhoo, the question i have for the veteren carrier builders is should i build the tower then prime and paint it, or prime paint then build?
I have done the hull in tamiya light ghost grey ( the last time i used haze grey i didnt like the finish) and dull red, and i used tamiya german grey for the deck.

At the begining of this post/thread there are some awsome photos of the Kitty Hawk and Constellation. Do any photos like those exist on the forum for any of the Forrestal class ships?
Photos of Forrestal-class carriers are kind of spread out. You can search navsource, defenselink, and the naval historical center for pictures. Each carrier in the class is distinctly different from the others. If you're modelling one, pick one and stick with it for reference. Also, the Bert Kinzey D&S book is a great reference for CV-59. PM me if you have any other questions.
In case you are new to this forum, I offer, through my website: www.stillmotionsphotographics.com photos CDs on USS RANGER, one on all 4 of the FORRESTALs, and two CDs on the KH class, one entitled KITTY AND CONNIE THE TWINS....and then there is the one on CV 63 LAST CALL, which is a total awesome walkaround shot just this last year while on cruise..... these CDs offer far more pictures and date and label captioning than ANY book out there, most images in hi resolution.... email off list at stillmo@mts.net

I do have your CD with all four Forrestals. My particular interest lies with the Independence CV-62 and how she appeared in 1959-63. I have found some photos on Navsource and a few others here and there. Sadly, I haven't been able to locate any plans for the Indy. I have are plans of the Ranger and Forrestal so hopefully in combo with any photos I can produce a good model.
