Post by Jimmy Conway »

Project SUPERCOUGAR released this month.

Eurocopter to factor in Brazil military helicopters SuperCougar

Rio de Janeiro, June 13 (EFECOM) .- The Brazilian manufacturer of helicopters Helibras, the European subsidiary of Eurocopter (EADS), manufactured in the country models for military transport and attack SuperCougar in order to sell the Brazilian Armed Forces and neighbouring countries, executives said today cited by the press.

"We are already negotiating technology transfer for local production of parts," said the chairman of the board of Helibras, Jorge Viana, in statements published today by the daily value.

According to the executive, the project will leave the paper on June 30 next, when it announced its launch into an agreement with the Brazilian government, and the first aircraft should be ready in early 2010 in the factory Helibras in Itajub, municipality the state of Minas Gerais.

Viana said Helibras decided on the investment after knowing the interest of the Brazilian Armed Forces to acquire at least 50 military helicopters and before any parcels of countries like Chile and Venezuela (apart from the strong domestic market and companies like petrobras).

The executive clarified that Eurocopter is transferring some of its manufacturing lines to outside of Europe due to the high cost of the euro exports more expensive.

"The brazilian helicopter will be cheaper," he said.

The version of SuperCougar manufactured in Brazil will be more modern and that the French will have the capacity to carry 22 people and fly at 300 miles per hour.

According to Valor, the expansion of the assembly line of Helibras SuperCougar to produce the required investments for about $ 200 million.

The possible production of military helicopters in Brazil was one of the subjects of the conversation that took two months ago in French Guiana the Brazilian president, Luiz Incio Lula da Silva and his French colleague, Nicolas Sarkozy.

Helibras (Helicopter of Brasil S / A), in which Eurocopter-a subsidiary of European group EADS is 45% and the government of Brazilian state of Minas Gerais 25%, is the only helicopter manufacturer based in americas.

The company recorded last year of 48 parcels for new helicopters worth 168 million dollars, an increase of 30%.

"We are negotiating technology transfers for local production of parts" negociations are already advanced with some suppliers, mainly from Minas Gerais, Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. The shouthern Aeroeletrnica quoted this to produce avinics (navigation system of the aircraft), while a Inbra, Mau (SP) may provide composite materials. The French Turbomeca (turbines) and the Italian Finmeccanica also maintain talks.

The center of engineering project is in Minas Gerais. In Rio de Janeiro must be installed the first helicopter flight simulator for training pilots. Today, this equipment is only available in Europe and the United States. These helicopters will equip ships and other Brazilian Navy facilities and other forces.

The formalization of the project will take place on the presence of the presidents of global Eurocopter and EADS and French authorities and Brazilian.
