Calling all Udaloy-class (Фрегат-M) & Sovremennyy-class (сарыч) fans

My mistake, I meant the Northern Fleet. Don't know why I said Black Sea fleet :S. According to wikipedia (not always correct) the Northern Fleet has:

This is the main fleet of the Russian Navy and as of 2004 consisted of about 55,000 service personnel. The Fleet has 11 missile submarines, of which four are in reserve. It has 22 tactical submarines: 16 nuclear powered attack submarines (SSN)/nuclear powered cruise missile submarines (SSGN) and 6 attack submarines (SSK). According to the IISS, it has eleven surface combatants, including Admiral Kuznetsov, two Kirov class nuclear-powered cruisers, one Slava class cruiser, four Udaloy class destroyers, Besstrashnyy, a Sovremennyy class destroyer, and two Krivak class frigates. There are also an estimated 26 patrol and coastal combatants, 18 mine warfare vessels, eight amphibious ships, and 130+ logistics and support ships and craft.

I don't know if this is correct. It would be great to have details of one ship for each class (closest to the plastic kits if possible !) So far I have a dragon Sovvy, a Skywave Krivak, an obscure Zhengdefu Udaloy kit in about 400 scale (unless anyone knows of a good 700 scale one out there?) I'm planning to buy Trumpy kits for the others. I'm looking forward to building them all, they are such great looking ships.

EDIT: I would be great to know which submarines are operated in the Northern fleet too. I'm pretty sure they have quite a few Akulas, but I'm not sure about the others.

Well, the Northern fleet does indeed have a single Sovremenny operational, although they seem to be working to get a second one up and running again. The active unit however, is called Admiral Ushakov, not Bestrashniy. They changed the name somewhere in 2004 if I remember correctly. Apart from that they only have one Kirov that is really active, the other one, Admiral Nakhimov is undergoing a refit and large upgrade for several years now. On the Udaloys they have the single Udaloy II and two or three ( mainly Admiral Levchenko and Severomorsk) really active Udaloy Is. Haven't seen any active Krivaks in the Northern fleet.

For submarines, they mainly have the Akulas as attack subs. They also have three Victor III's although they are planning to scrap those soon. One of those (she was refitted for it) is generally used to obtain information about the border continental shelf in the North (so they can claim more area and hence more natural resources).
On the missile subs they have most of the active Oscars in service.
On the ballaistic subs they have all of the Delta IVs and some Delta IIIs. The remaining Delta IIIs are in the Pacific Fleet.

Sometime back I started to make a 1/72 Kashtan. With moderate succes, I never finished it because my methods weren't good enough and it looked like crap.

Thanks. I looked at your album, really gorgeous photos. Most of the photos that I have seen do not show details on the rear side of the structures, but you have a good number of photos taken from the stern that show a lot of details.

These are a modellers dream. It left me wanting more too bad you could not find a row boat to get closer.

Thanks for the kind words.

I used a Sony A100 with a Sigma 18-50/F2.8 lense for the wider shots and a Sigma 135-400/F4.5-5.6 telezoom for the close ins.

Unfortunately the low standing sun did it hard to get good exposure in the shadows.

I was just wondering if any of you know of any Udaloy kit in 1/700 out there at the moment? I know that Pitroad/Skywave offered one (doesn't seem to be in production anymore?) but is there no other manufacturer for 1/700? Hard to believe since the Udaloys are some good looking machines. By the way, excellent photos of that Sovremenny!

No, Pitroad returned their Udaloy 1/700 to production. Their site lists it at 1600 yen. There's no udaloy II producer currently, which is the catch.
