I am referring to WW2 Gearings. I have the plans and CD from Floating Drydock, very nice. But drafters often simplify the mast details. This is the case on most of the Benson Gleaves class plans that I have encountered. Detailed plans from the archives show that the mast was actually several lengths of different diameter pipe. I was wondering if the same thing might be true of the Gearing plans. I guess I will start studying the photos a little closer and see if I can tell from them.

I spent some time combing through Navsource last night, and it looks like MOST of them are differing diameters of pipe. Some, however, seem to be a single consistent diameter- and a larger size than the others.

No, I didn't think to save any of the images... grumble, grumble....

I saw in the latest Naval Institute catalog ,the book "Sumner-Gearing-Class Destroyers: Their Design, Weapons, and Equipment" (Hardcover reprint)
by Robert F. Sumrall will be available in September. Used copies have been very expensive.

I have a copy of Bob Sumrall's book and I don't see anything in the index or glossary about the antena mast. There is a wealth of information about the radars and associated equipment, main guns, mines and more. Most of the chapters cover the FRAM conversions, but nothing spacific to the mast. I got my copy off eBay for $35 plus shiping. You may want to have a look around on eBay.

I'll be glad to look up any information you might need. Have you tried the Sumner/Gearing e-book from Floating Drydock? This book is specific to WWII Sumner/Gearing ships.

Hi all,

I am building a WWII Sumner, but am lacking of details beneath the 20mm gun platform (i.e. the supporting structure) at the portside of the latter stack. Do you have any info on this? Your any direction or inspiration will be greatly appreciated.

Hi Kazec, have you tried Navsource? Any pic you have to show the area you point lack of details?

Are you looking for info on the gun platform port side? Here are a few photos from the e-book I spoke of which I highly recomend.
